Are you surprised by this about Cambridge tutors?

I was so surprised to discover that many of the tutors and directors of studies at Cambridge University have Facebook and Instagram accounts where they post family/personal posts/pictures.

I found this shocking.

This is because although I knew my secondary school/sixth form teachers were “human” and so it was not surprising if they used social media, I thought Cambridge professors were special due to Cambridge’s prestige.

Do you find this similarly shocking?

I don't. They are human and should be seen/treated as such.

You're surprised to find out that those who teach at Cambridge are human? You might have to explain what you mean by 'special' here. Did you expect them to be smart enough not to use social media at all? Too busy to use social media? It's not clear what angle you're approaching this from. Personally I'm not shocked at all, but I don't understand why you are.
No.

I thought that they were very mysterious people since getting into Oxbridge is so difficult and they have the power to choose who gets in.

I'm shocked because no teacher or lecturer should have a publically 'open' profile on Facebook.

Their settings should be private - this is the advice we are given.

You're shocked smart people are also humans? Or you're shocked that Cambridge doesn't restrict their personal life like it's a cult? I'm confused

Where did you get this information from? I am acquainted with many teachers who have public social media accounts.

This has to be a joke. What do you mean by them being “special”? You thought they are chronically offline? That their personal life is a secret and they hide it from the rest of the world? This is quite frankly a ridiculous question. You’re not actually a student at Cambridge though right?

Union advice and guidance from LA.

Settings shouldn't be open.

Matters less for lecturers than it does for teachers tbh but my Facebook is locked down pretty well. Insta is a different thing, I use that for my research interest-related stuff as well so that's quite open.

You sound very young and naive. They are just doing a job. They also drink, drive cars, go to school parent evenings, play tennis, go to the gym, go to the toilet...at least the 2 in my family do. They don't always load the dishwasher though but do put the bins out.
