Wellbeing Ideas to Recharge from Uni Stress!

Hi everyone, I’m Tarra, a student who recently completed the BVS + LLM with City St George’s. Exactly one year ago, I was juggling classes, events, and a club committee role, and it was easy to feel overwhelmed! Looking back, here are some wellbeing tips I wish I’d given my past self to help recharge during the busy postgraduate grind.

1. Read a book
With so much of our free time spent doomscrolling, reading feels like a healthier escape. It gives my eyes a break from screens, reduces the constant overstimulation of social media, and lets me enjoy some quiet, productive downtime.

2. Visit a park alone
London is full of beautiful green spaces, and research shows that spending just two hours a week in nature can boost health and wellbeing (Healthline: https://www.healthline.com/health/health-benefits-of-being-outdoors). For me, being in the park calms my mind and recharges my energy. Sometimes, I even bring a book along to double the benefits.

3. Journal
Writing down your thoughts and feelings can be such a release. Journaling helps me process emotions privately, reduce anxiety, and gain clarity for better decision-making, especially on tougher days.

4. Go for a walk
Walking is a simple but powerful way to clear your head, lift your mood, and get some gentle exercise (Healthline: https://www.healthline.com/health/exercise-fitness/benefits-of-walking#walking-safety-tips). As a study break, it’s perfect for shaking off the stiffness of sitting at a desk all day.

5. Watch a show
I recently discovered you can make free accounts on UK platforms like Channel 4 and BBC iPlayer. Lately, I’ve been catching up on shows through Channel 4, and it’s been a great way to switch off from uni stress and recharge mentally.

I hope you find these ideas helpful! Remember to carve out a little time each day for at least one wellbeing activity - it really makes a difference. You’ve got this!
