NHS student nursing bursery

Hi, does anyone know how to apply for the NHS student nursing bursery?
Also, I'm a little confused to how it works, like how much do you actually get?
Can you still apply for the bursery if you're not taking out a loan? I really don't want to take out a loan and I don't think I will have to if I get the full 5k bursery
Also, can I also apply to access to Leeds (my firm choice is Uni of Leeds) as well as the bursery?
And is there a deadline I need to apply by?

sorry for all the questions everythings just very confusing!!

Information on the bursary, and how much you get, is here:
https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/nhs-learning-support-fund-lsf - It includes a link to create an account/log in to application for learning support fund.
It says that, if you don't apply for SFE, you can still get the learning support fund if you send proof of being eligible for student finance.

Do you mean the NHS Wales Bursary or the training grant available from the NHS Learning Support Fund. Where do you normally live (England, Scotland or Wales) and will all of your uni choices be in England?

Have a look at the following thread:

If you can clarify, I can answer some of your questions.

Hi,
I live in and am staying in England to study, but I'm also planning on staying home if I get into most of my options

Hi,

You can apply for the NHS Learning Support Fund (LSF), which provides a £5,000 training grant each academic year, or a pro rata amount if you study part-time. Some courses also offer an additional £1,000 Special Subject Payment. To be eligible, you need to be studying an approved course at a university in England and meet the general Student Finance eligibility criteria. Even if you haven’t applied for a student loan, you can still apply for the LSF as long as you can show you meet those criteria.

Applications are made through the NHS Learning Support Fund website by creating an online account. You’ll need to reapply each year, and applications must be submitted within six months of your academic year start date. Continuing students will receive an email reminder to reapply.

You can find full details and apply here https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/nhs-learning-support-fund-lsf

Hope this helps,

Thanks for clarifying. Just to note, it is the NHS Learning Support Fund that you will need to apply for not the NHS bursary (the bursary is for dental and medical students). To answer your questions:

Hi, does anyone know how to apply for the NHS student nursing bursery?
You apply directly to the NHS LSF by creating an account: https://learning-support-fund.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/student/
If your course starts in Sep/Oct 2026, I recommend you apply once you have made your firm and insurance decisions next May/June.

Also, I'm a little confused to how it works, like how much do you actually get?
You will get a training grant of £5k per year. If you study mental health nursing you will get an additional £1k per year. Payments are made in three instalments in November, March and July.

Can you still apply for the bursery if you're not taking out a loan? I really don't want to take out a loan and I don't think I will have to if I get the full 5k bursery
You can if you are eligible for SFE support. I assume you will be applying for the tuition fee loan from SFE? You could also apply for the maintenance loan to show that you are eligible and then cancel it before the start of term. If you are not taking the loan for religious reasons, you can contact the NHS LSF directly to explain this.

Also, can I also apply to access to Leeds (my firm choice is Uni of Leeds) as well as the bursery?
Yes. The Access to Leeds programme is about grades not funding.

And is there a deadline I need to apply by?
Yes - within six months of the start of your course.
