Obviously you don't know the system. Its incredibly corrupt to put it simply.

Aha of course, they disagree with you so the system must be corrupt?

Makes the institution and therefore their degree look better.

If that were really the case, then why would already recognised degrees like oxbridge degrees have a high student satisfaction? Wouldn't they have no incentive to rate it highly? And wouldn't you then expect crazy student satisfaction from far less recognised unis far down the list, which... isn't happening?

Oh, and you just said that the rankings don't rly care about student satisfaction, so surely no one cares about the student satisfaction when judging the worth of a degree, and thus there is no incentive to rate it disproportionally highly?

They rate each others universities and courses, so if someone were to be accurate and critical then they would get punished in return. The people doing the evaluations need to not hold any kind of university post for the system to have a chance of working.

Really?

The rankings don't because the information is so useless. Other people use it though, like people advising prospective students. If a university were to have a bad result then people would be less likely to come.

how would that be an incentive for leaving students to lie?

Nobody ever replies because its a farce to do so. Also you are a really **** course rep if you get no replies or feedback, we have had hundreds of emails for maths. Maybe that because people actually think its worth giving feedback, because the Maths department listens to it.

It probably *is* because people don't think it'll be worth it, but I'm not sure why. During our first year, both physics and maths SSCCs sent out emails (around the same time) to the first year students. Maths got massive feedback. Physics didn't. Perhaps I am a bad person and this comes across through the email medium, but I like to think I'm not quite that obvious.

This makes it a rather annoying problem. As far as email is concerned people *are* happy!

Your allegations of farces and things are nothing but saddening. It's one thing to dislike the physics department, another to slander everyone and everything related to it. It isn't *their* fault you weren't very good at the work

Some league tables consult headteachers for their opinions, like the Times one.

You have to be very careful in wording the email and explain it properly. Plus you then get the other course reps to send out an email as well. You do have to almost harass people to get feedback.

You could be more proactive in getting responses from students. Or look at the Physics Top Trumps even, there are some pretty dissatisfied students on there...

They have screwed up so much as a department its gotten silly. This includes giving me a mark for an exam paper that I didn't sit, so I have no idea how anyone can have any confidence in their marking procedures. I still want to meet the invisible man who sat my paper...

Three As :p:

If only it had been AAB but that was never gonna happen

Edit: Yeah they are ... interesting . I have points where I wish I'd applied to a lower offering uni than Warwick giving me AAB as long as the B is further maths. But then I realise that I can't narrow down these choices now, let alone before I had any offers. :awesome:

Ah well XD
*feels really lucky about his offer*

You should come just to see if HMK is right or not :p:

My offer is easier than yours though :lolwut:.

I already have one of the As in maths (just not certificated) and only need C average this year for an A in physics so its only one more A I need. And thats in A-levels rather than silly difficult Scottish things .

I would argue that my offer is harsher... that said, it's not a competition, and if it was, Mithra would win and I'd be last =( ^^

Almost certainly. I consider myself lucky to have such a generous offer. That said it doesn't matter too much because i don't plan on doing badly in the exams.

:p: You know what i mean though. I've applied to Durham, so I must believe I can meet any offer they were likely to give me. Not the same with you?

My offer is nice. A in maths (pretty much in the bag considering im doing further maths and im cruising through C3 and C4) and an A in either

critical thinking
philosophy
further maths
or chemistry

I'll be finding out first hand if HMK is right. If he is right then I might switch to theoretical or switch to maths and physics Nat Sci

I just like Durham... like alot ... more so than oxbridge

Getting a 6 or 7 in maths HL will be hell. It's possible, though.
