I’m trying to decide between these two courses, can I hear some opinions on each please ! I’m thinking Maths because I liked it at A Level and there’s a lot I could go into. I’m thinking of some sort of engineering because it’s more hands on and it seems like it could be fun, also I could possibly help tackle climate change which is a concern of mine.
Thank you!!

Go to some Uni Open Days and listen to the subject presentations for some different Engineering and Maths degrees. Ask questions and talk to current students on those courses. Then do some calm thinking about what you really want to do.

There are also degree programs where you can study either joint subjects, or across several different academic subjects - examples :
BEng Engineering Mathematics | Study at Bristol | University of Bristol
Natural Sciences - Lancaster University
Architectural Environment Engineering BEng | University of Nottingham
BEng (Hons)/MEng Renewable Energy Engineering | University of Portsmouth
etc etc

Hey there,

At LSBU, while we don’t offer a standalone Mathematics degree, we do have a range of Engineering and technology-focused courses that include a strong mathematical foundation and plenty of analytical problem-solving. These might be a great fit if you enjoy maths but want to apply it practically.

You can choose from:

BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering focuses on design, thermodynamics, and materials, ideal if you like physics and mechanical systems.

BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering covers circuits, power systems, and electronics used in modern technology.

BEng (Hons) Chemical and Energy Engineering combines chemistry and engineering, great if you’re interested in sustainability or energy systems.

BEng (Hons) Civil and Building Services Engineering focuses on infrastructure, structures, and sustainable building design.

All our Engineering degrees are accredited by professional bodies and taught through a mix of lectures, lab work, and design projects, with the option for a placement year to gain real industry experience.

You can also chat with our current students on Unibuddy if you’d like to ask about their experiences or what studying at LSBU is really like https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/student-life/chat

I’d really encourage you to join us at our Open Day https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days on the 15th November as you’ll be able to chat with our lecturers, current students, and admissions team to get a real feel for the course and career path.
