is sheffield dentistry risky?

I'm about to submit my UCAS application for dentistry but still can't choose between University of Birmingham and University of Sheffield (I'm applying to King's, Manchester and Leeds for the others)

I need some advice because my GCSEs are 9999998886, with 6 being in Eng Language. Sheffield says they need a 7 whilst Birmingham says 7 in lang or lit.
My other stats are 2230 B2 and A* AA. I'm applying with extenuating circumstances for GCSEs so I was wondering whether they may allow the 6 given my others are good.

I really like Sheffield and don't know much about Birmingham which has led me to be unsure, as Birmingham seems to be the most logical option. I've tried calling Sheffield about it but no one has answered.

Does anyone know whether it's worth the shot, or is it too much of a gamble?

Thanks

Your GCSE's are amazing - much better than mine! Ucat same. I also got a 6 in English language and 7 in lit and havn't put sheffield because of this. I would keep phoning the admissions team and ask if I were you or send an email. Youv'e probably already submitted your UCAS form by now though?!? What did you decide?

Hi MeliSil, 👋

It's great to hear you are interested in Sheff for your dentistry course!

I can say that in my experience Sheffield has been quite lenient with grades if you put them as your firm choice. Both my partner (ChemEng) and I (EngLit) applied for Sheffield as our firm choice and even though we both didn't quite meet the grade requirements, we were still offered the place! So with A levels like those, I definitely think you'd have a good shot!

I'm sorry to hear you weren't able to get through to anyone on the phone. Did you try to send a prospective student enquiry form? Here is the link and you can send your enquiry to them if you are still interested in applying for sheff. They should hopefully get back to you with further guidance.

Good luck with your a-levels, and let me know if you have any further questions!

All best wishes,
Phoebe 😀
