Veterinary medicine with AAB

I got A in psychology, B in biology, and C in chemistry, then resat my bio and chem A-levels and got A in bio and B in chem. I'm applying this october, so the 15th, which is short notice but I'm struggling to find places to apply to. I know UCLAN accepts AAB, and nottingham has a gateway course that I think I can apply to since I've done sutton trust online (if anyone can confirm that I'd really appreciate it!). Does anyone know of any other courses or gateway courses I can apply to? Thanks!

Have you looked at RVC gateway? They have very specific conditions but if you qualified for Sutton trust you may qualify for RVC gateway.
And you also may be eligible for Bristol, can’t have above a B in chemistry and then either got free school meals, been in care or attended a school on their aspiring schools list (it’s quite extensive)

Worth looking at those options!

The B in chem may be an issue. I’d look into gateway courses offered by various unis- but you do have to hit criteria for being disadvantaged.

I've just had a look at both, I think I'm able to apply to RVC gateway, but unfortunately I'm not eligible for Bristol (thought this was odd as one of the RVC conditions I met was for my high school being in their contextual list, but is not on the Bristol aspiring schools list, so for anyone else looking at these it is worth checking both). Thanks for the advice!

Hi @mossy-cord,

Have you considered our foundation entry into vet med? During your foundation entry, you'll be embedded with the veterinary school with access to our newly developing teaching facilities. You’ll be taught by the same academic team responsible for veterinary admissions and teaching. You’ll be supported to develop your full potential regardless of your background.

Our Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery (BVMS) foundation year programme offers a great potential entry route to our standard BVMS programme. You'll start at Year 0, where you'll get the chance to develop and demonstrate the necessary subject-specific knowledge and abilities to participate in the progression process.

To find out more about progressing from the foundation year, entry and fee requirements and much more here.

If you do have any questions let me know or contact our enquires team.🙂

Best wishes,
^Zac

Thanks for the advice, I have been looking at your course and been to an open day and I really like the look of it! Would I be able to apply to your standard veterinary course as I have an AAB, or would I have to apply to your foundation course? Do you accept resits for the standard course?

Hi @mossy-cord,

Thank you for your message and patience. It's great that you enjoyed our open day! That would be a question for our enquires team unfortunately. They will be able to answer those questions and go through your options. If you do have any university life questions or anything else I can help with, I'd be more than happy to 🙂

Best wishes, ^Zac
