Could I increase my maintenance loan?

Hi, I have just started my foundation year in university and staying in accommodation. I applied for the minimum or the usual SFE maintenance loan as I got told by my parents the rest they can pay for ;however, after some heart breaking financial news I’ve been told we can’t afford it anymore. So I was wondering is it possible for me to increase the maintenance loan I applied for even though I have gotten my first payment and started my university year ? Please help me out and any advice works.

Hi there,

Yes, you can - your parents can provide their income details and we can use that to see if you're entitled to a higher Maintenance Loan. To do this we'll need the Include Household Income and PFF2 form. They're linked here and you can upload them to your account.

Alternatively, you can apply as an Independent student if you've been financially self-sufficient for 3 years prior to the start of your course. For example, you can provide proof of income like P60s or Universal Credit statements, etc

If not, that's okay, you can use your parents' income instead.

Thanks, Graeme
