Y11 work experience (not sure where to post this)

I need some ideas bro bc so far not much is going my way and I just need some extra brainstorming. Suggest anything but things that are music related would be super cool and I also have interests in English/reading/books, biology and psychology. Tbh any suggestions would be great, thank you! Also I live in London so the place would need to be based there.

If you play an instrument above ABSRM 5 you could look into teaching/tutoring. I was lucky because the place I use to learn asked my if I could cover for someone and that continued to a long term thing.

But best way to find things without connections is to start a LinkedIn account, select open to work and input your interests. If you need any help setting up let me know. Especially for your age tutoring is the easiest non skilled work to find and loads of online tutoring companies look for languages and music tutors especially.

It does not need to be relevant to what you are studying or what you think you might do as a career or at Uni. Pick something that will give you people-skills and help your self-confidence - it could be Tescos or working in a Care Home or whatever - all fine.

The tutoring suggestion is not feasible for a 15 or 16 year old who does not even have GCSEs. And a Linkedin account would not help any teenager get a week's work-experience.

@no_itsaviola - just be aware that not everyone on TSR has your best interests at heart.

First of all tutoring is possible at the Key Stage levels although it might be in terms of family friends but it still counts. I was employed to teach piano at 14 and paid so it is entirely possible. ABRSM Grade 5 is considered the equivalent of a GCSE and therefore it’s accepted that people can start to teach as an assistant at that level. Again I would know because that’s what I did.

I’ll admit the LinkedIn might not work out at this age but my school encouraged us to start early. Even if it doesn’t give anything now it’s super useful for the future. People always give up things because they think they’re too young or they don’t have the qualifications. Well you’ll never get it you don’t apply for it in the first place.

I’m a bit offended you think I’m one of those people. They were clearly asking for ideas because they don’t have any themselves and I’m not sending them to any sketchy websites, LinkedIn is a legitimate job searching platform. I’m not guaranteeing any of these will work out but to imply the advice I offered was malicious is ridiculous.

I will acknowledge I misunderstood what OP was asking for. I thought they wanted long term work experience in Y11.

Yooo let’s not get heated in here lol. Thanks for both of your inputs. Funnily enough I already teach piano but because it’s not with a company then it wouldn’t count. I’m thinking of emailing at some bookshops and hoping for the best.

Your school should also have a list of local companies that offer work experience.
If all their places are filled, try contacting local companies as they are often willing and able with the support of school and Unifrog placement system.
