History and Politics Undergraduate

Hey all

I’m planning on applying to the following unis for history and politics/international relations:

U of Edinburgh
U of Strathclyde
U of Dundee
U of St Andrews

I feel like I’m reaching too far by applying for some of the top unis in Scotland, but so far I have 3 Scottish Highers (AAC) and this year I’m doing 4 Highers (Aiming for AAAA)

Anyone who is currently doing either HisPol or History and international relations, please give some tips and advice.

I’m worried that even though theyll know my grades I’m aiming for they won’t think it’s good enough because I only have 2As and a C.

Anyone who is studying at any of these unis with the same course, please reply with what grades you had when you applied and any other offers you got accepted/declined in.

Thanks 💕💕💕

Do all of these choices have higher entry requirements than you are predicted - that is far too risky. And which is your potential Insurance choice?

Hi there!

Good point from McGinger - if you already have one of those as an insurance choice with grades 2-3 lower than your predicted grades, you should be fine. If not, then why not check out...

Uni of Aberdeen (BBBB)
Uni of Stirling (AABB)

Please note these are straight History courses so feel free to ignore if this is not the course you'd like to do!

Its wise to have a safety net, just in case things don't turn out as planned on results day. Just make sure its a place you like the look of and would be happy with. In any case, those predicted grades/goals of AAAA are fantastic - you're clearly someone who has put a lot of work in and so I'm confident if you carry on doing what you're doing you could make a competitive application to all of those choices.

Hoping this helps!

No I’m predicted straight AAAA this year and the highest entry requirement is AAAAB so I don’t think it will be a problem meeting the entry requirements. My insurance choice will be Dundee as it’s BBBC which I’m definitely capable of getting.

If you have Dundee as an insurance and its that much below your predicted grades, then you should be absolutely fine. As long as you like Dundee's course and can see yourself as happy there then this is a very sensible insurance choice!
