QTS: Trying to Pick My Final Five

Hi everyone! I'm currently tackling my UCAS application form (agh!). I'm looking at the three year Primary Education with QTS. I currently have two on my definite list (Bath Spa and UWE). The others I'm looking at are Gloucestershire, Northampton, Edge Hill, and Winchester. I really like the look of Edge Hill, but it's about 4 hours drive from where I live near Cardiff. I would appreciate any thoughts or comments that could help make choose my final five. Thanks!
@04MR17 any tips for our aspiring teacher?

If proximity to Cardiff is your worry then Gloucestershire would be the most sensible next step. I do have several friends who graduated from Edge Hill and all seemed to have a nice time there. If you really like the course and the campus then go for it! It'll be the cheapest place to live on your list.

Hey @SimplySunnyii

It's great to hear that you will be putting UWE down on your list!

It's certainly a great choice. I have a handful of friends who study Primary Education here and really enjoy the course and going on placement in and around Bristol.

My advice on choosing the final five would be to write down all the choices you're considering and compare them side to side on a large sheet of paper. It can help to visualise things better compared to just researching online. I'd particularity recommend comparing any differences in modules, as well as the town/city the university is in too as its important to enjoy where you live too.

Good luck with everything, and we hope to see you here soon!

Let us know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
Cara (2nd year Marketing student)

Oxford Brookes is excellent - local Primaries seek out their grads.

Northampton would be a No from me - Winchester?
Hi @SimplySunnyii 😀

It is great to hear that you are considering Edge Hill for your Primary Education with QTS degree.

If you would like some first-hand advice from one of our students on the course, you could have a chat with Patrick online via our website.

Some useful advice may be to pick unis based on the course first- after reading about the course content, think about what excites you most! Then, think about where you’d actually want to live (city vibe, cost, distance from home) etc.

Best of luck, feel free to reach out if you'd like any further advice!

Hi @SimplySunnyii

I do not have any experience with those unis however I do study BA Primary Education.

Some things that I considered when choosing my uni where:

The placement opportunities and structure (is placement alongside teaching or is it in blocks?).

What modules they teach. This will be fairly similar for most unis to ensure that they teach all of the required content, however there will be some variation.

The teaching methods to use - for example, at BCU most of my lectures are very interactive and with an average class sized group rather than formal lectures with the whole year.

The assessment methods - is it exams or assignments? And which do you think you would prefer?

Hope that helps!

Sophie.
