Newcastle or Cardiff Uni for dentistry

Which am I most likely to get an interview for
Stats:
GCSE 9888877 points cardiff 26/28
UCAT 2220 SJT Band 1
Both risky choices but have to pick 1 as dont qualify for any other alternatives because of GCSE Lang 6 and Bio 7.
My other choices are Plymouth, Liverpool and Manchester.
Help me decide which risk to pick!

Or Leeds?

I think Leeds and Manchester particularly are both strong options for you.

Thanks. Think I have finally decided. And school have said they can recall the form to change cardiff. So have decided on . . .

Plymouth (bcos I might get contextual as did Peninsula pathway and my postcode)
Manchester (risky option bcos of potentially high ucat threshold but balanced with my Band 1 SJT
Leeds (another post said asked at open day and they said UCAT and GCSE scored 50/50)
Liverpool (bcos GCSE's not ranked and really clear on their 40/60 ranking for interview of UCAT/Non- academic form).

Not what I thought I would be putting down before researching selection to interview criteria but there we go. Have tried to think with my head and not heart.

Ruled out
Newcastle (too risky with this years high scoring and increased cohort for UCAT and the fact that Newcastles seems to go up year on year by 100+ points anyways so I could be right on the edge of cut off point.)
Cardiff ( From what I can tell from various emails and online research this year are only using GCSE's to score for interview selection and looks like would need score of 27 0r 28 and I have 26. Still finding it hard to give this one up tbh but its too risky and very unclear)

Hi,

I would definitely think about swapping Liverpool for Newcastle. You said you got a ucat score of 2220, that is 90th percentile. This is a guaranteed interview. If you read tsr posts from Liverpool last year people with. 3000+ didn’t even manage to get an interview because their NAQ was not strong enough, it makes it risky for applicants with a high ucat because theoretically you can get an interview from an uni expect Bristol, also post interview Liverpool is 21 percent and Newcastle is like 45 percent. If your ucat is 2220 that is very strong and at no point is it a non competitive or weak score. Also Newcastle went up by 100 points when it was scored out of 3600

I think that's very sensible of you. I can see the attachment to Cardiff prob due to proximity, but with 26 points it was way too risky, and prob an outright rejection. At least now, you have 4 very safe chances of interviews. Even Manchester I think is a lot safer than you're thinking, given your stats and your B1.
Good luck !!

Attachment to Cradiff is yes its closer to home, but also they have a windsurfing and watersports society so good for me to keep my skills up and get out on the water and make friends through something I love doing. No windsurfing in Leeds or Manchester, sadly!

Haha. True. They only have the wind!
But at least you’ve got Plymouth and Liverpool where I’m sure you can 🏄

Hi there! Great to hear you're considering studying at Plymouth! 🙂

I'm a current student here and, although I study a different course, I'm more than happy to answer any questions you might have about the university, campus, or city, as well as point you in the right direction for more specialist queries too!

If you haven't already, I'd also recommend visiting for an open day as this is the best chance to see the campus and facilities, hear from students and staff, as well as get a feel for the area. You can register via this link to secure your space!

Best of luck with your applications! 🙌
