DSA Question

I was studying previously and due to personal reasons had to withdraw from my course.

Now looking at going back, it will be a different university and starting again in year one as I have been told what I learnt at my old university isn’t compatible with the new course.

Will my old DSA award still stand or would I have reapply from scratch?

I withdrew in Jan 2023 and looking at going back either Sept 2026 or 2027.

Hope someone knows the answer

How long was you first course supposed to be? You will probably need to have a review of needs as you’ve had a break in study of over 2 years. They’ll review you existing equipment / software and extend licenses or get you new ones.

Human support can be renewed/rearranged as you may be in a new location.

Policies have changed for travel and accommodation so that will need to be discussed

So all in all a review is probably best for you.

First course was over 3 years but it took me 5 years to get to third year due to personal difficulties .

So would a review require new medical evidence etc? Only I have a new useless doctor who is reluctant to do anything as I had to move practices and only seen them twice and both times not been listened to.

It’s unlikely they will need new medical evidence. But contact student finance to ask for dsa support and they will do the rest and put you in touch with an assessment centre

You will need to reapply from scratch but they may still expect you to have any equipment they supplied when you go back.

The only equipment I was given was a laptop and I started uni back in 2016 and I could never get it to work properly so bought another anyway.

That laptop is long gone as I lost all my possessions when I was evicted from my house in 2019 and couldn’t move any of my stuff due to having no money

If it is a new course at a different university, then you will have to re-apply from scratch and resubmit all your evidence again.
