Removed from Sheffield Live sessions

I am currently at another university but I would like to change both my degree and my university to move to University of Sheffield. I have signed up for many of the Sheffield Live sessions, some of them which I attended last year, however for all of the subject spotlight sessions, it says I have been removed. I signed up for psychology, biological sciences and pharmacy, as these are what I am considering. Have I done something wrong or could it be that I have signed up to too many? All of the other sessions I signed up, including subject taster sessions, I am still registered for. I'm probably overthinking it but I am worried it could affect a future application.

You will have to contact Sheffield to get a direct answer to your question. They will know why you can't access the sessions. It could be as simple as an admin error, so please contact them. Hope this helps!

Hi! I really appreciate your reply, thank you 🙂 having checked again I have been registered for the same sessions again on another date, so it must have been a case of the original ones being cancelled or something like that. I was definitely overthinking it!

Hi, I'm glad you managed to get everything is sorted! I noticed you're considering Psychology, Biological Sciences and Pharmacy (great choices!).

I'm currently in my final year studying Bsc Biomedical Science, so I'd be more than happy to help if you had any specific questions either regarding the courses, the University of Sheffield , or about Sheffield as a city itself.

Is there a particular course you feel more drawn to ahead of the subject spotlight sessions?

Funnily enough right now it's biomedical sciences that I would like to do! I love anything to do with the human body and medicine but the only thing that I am unsure about is I don't know whether I'd enjoy working long term in a lab ☹️ does the university offer any support regarding careers for biomed graduates that aren't necessarily working in a lab?

Hello,

That’s excellent to hear! The BSc Biomedical Science course at the University of Sheffield is very well structured and provides exposure to a wide range of areas including Neuroscience, Physiology, Anatomy, and Developmental Biology, among others.

Here’s the link to the course page, which includes more information on specific laboratory techniques you’ll develop, as well as the core and optional modules available throughout the degree: https://sheffield.ac.uk/undergraduate/courses/2026/biomedical-science-bsc#modules

In terms of lab work, there are required contact hours in the labs as part of the course, but you’ll also have the option to choose non-lab modules where applicable. I completely understand your concern, I felt the same way! While I don’t plan to pursue a long-term lab career myself, I’ve found that the scientific and analytical skills developed in the labs are extremely helpful and transferable to many non-lab roles. For example, I recently completed a year in industry at a pharmaceutical company, where my role was primarily office-based.

The University of Sheffield also offers excellent careers and employability support throughout your degree. Some aspects I personally found really helpful include careers fairs, CV and LinkedIn guidance, employability advisors, and optional workshops. I’ve provided a few links below if you’d like to look into these in more detail. There’s also specific information on graduate careers in Biosciences, which might be useful while deciding if the course is right for you.

I hope this helps provide some clarity! Please let me know if you have any other questions, I’m more than happy to help. 😊

Best Wishes,
Mia - Bsc Biomedical Science Student
