resits policy

I am quite confused with one thing, i have resat my gcses and ive improved by three grades, but for unis that i wanted to apply which i met the minimum requirements first sitting however they dont accept gcses resits, so would unis like these rejects me automatically or they would ignore my resits grades and looks at my original grades during the admission process? and does that apply to all other unis when they say they dont accept gcses resits?

Which Unis are these - and do they specifically state this on the course page etc, or is it just 'I've heard'?

Glasgow does accept GCSE resits - "Yes, we will allow for GCSE or Nat 5 resits."
University of Glasgow - Schools - School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing - Undergraduate Medical School - Admissions - FAQs
So you might need to recheck this policy for all of your chosen Unis.

They do not accept resits for A levels - did you make it clear that you were asking about GCSEs? Then re-email them with this link - if its information published on their website, they must abide by it.

I made it very clear and told them my stats too, but my real question is how uni do with it when they say they don’t accept GCSEs resits like they just ignore it ? Coz I can’t choose which grades for them to see I need to show all

You’ve posted under the medicine section which caused some confusion.

If you still met the minimum requirements with your original results then I suspect they’d consider your first sitting only rather than rejecting you. But it’s a pretty uncommon scenario so you need to ask the uni directly - not just whether they accept GCSE retakes.

Oh I didn’t notice that , ty ! When u say it’s uncommon dy mean straight on rejecting is the common way. I js don’t to felt that resitting my GCSEs would block me from apply uni that have restricts policy on resits though I have met the minimum requirement anyways

I mean it’s uncommon to retake a gcse to boost your overall profile when you already meet the minimum requirements. I don’t imagine it’d be an automatic rejection, but it comes up so infrequently (unis typically don’t care about gcse resits, it’s only
really med that does in some cases) that even working in admissions I couldn’t tell you what the typical stance would be.

Well I’m quite literally asking about this for ucl, tried email them and they haven’t responded for 2 weeks, did follow up but just got a answer back, for other unis I need to resits to meet the requirements, but ucl is different I already met it, but I resits and they r saying unless u resits to meet the requirements then resits are not allowed for medicine program.

Okay, that’s a bit clearer in that UCL clarified that they only accept tests for meeting minimum requirements, not boosting your profile. Again, I doubt they’d reject you, they’d just consider your original grades.

Depending on your gcse profile and their weighting on it, it sounds like a risky option.

ucl is known for not scoring their gcses and thats why i picked it, their requirement was 6 in both eng lan and maths , i got 8 and 6 in my original sitting , and my original profile was 9,8,8,7,6,6,5,5,5,4 and my resits were 9,9,9,8,8,8,8,7,5,4 which now eng is still 8 but my maths is now 8, so idk i dont want to lose the oppotunity to apple.

Unless I see the exact wording of the email they sent you about resits I can't really advise further.

If a university doesn't accept GCSE resits, they will only look at your grades from the first time you took the test. If those meet the requirements, they won't automatically reject you.
