Vacation schemes

Hi everyone,

I recently came across a tiktok about some law vacation scheme applications that are starting to open. In the comments, someone mentioned that these schemes are usually aimed at second/third year students, and that there are separate programmes or events for first years.

Does this mean that first-year students can’t apply for vacation schemes? Also, what kinds of law-related opportunities are available for first-year students? And are there any specific firms that offer first-year insight schemes or open days?

Any information will be appreciated, thanks!

Hi there😊

I am a final year law student and Brand Ambassador for an international law firm, CMS and very happy to answer the questions.
Yes, vac schemes are usually open to law student from penultimate year ( the year before final year, which is the 2nd year on a 3 year degree) onwards which means the first years are not eligible to apply for vac schemes. However, many firms have first year schemes or insight schemes that are exclusively for first year law students. 😊
For example: CMS has an insight programme for first year law students and the successful completion could fast track you to a training contract assessment day, which is the final stage of Training Contract Application process !! You can find the details here. Legal 500 also has a list of Law firms that offer first year opportunities, you can find the link here.

If you have any other questions about law firms or law school please feel free to ask away😊

Best wishes
