Advice for UCL Media BA Portfollio

Hi! I'm about to apply to UCL for their Media BA. I understand they're very competitive and that the portfolio matters a lot. So I had some questions if anyone can answer -- especially anyone who has been accepted previously would be very helpful

I noticed on the UCL Website it says "Include some work in progress to show us how you research and develop your ideas." ...up to SIX ITEMS that represent a variety of your works and approaches." I apologise if this question sounds a little dumb, I just want to make sure I understand fully and don't make any mistakes when I have to submit my portfolio. Say I wanted to include an illustration and its work in progress images like a sketch or unshaded version - Would that count as a seperate item? Or does any additional imagery to the illustration count towards the same item?

Also just any tips in general about applying and presenting the portfolio
