Hi guys! I'm a year 13 student studying psychology, sociology, biology and an EPQ. My goal is to go to Manchester to study education and eventually become a primary school teacher. So far I've been getting As and A*s in exams so I'd like to keep that up. I’m hoping that this gyg will help me stay accountable and keep my motivation alive. My goals for this year are:

Stay on top of my work - ideally I'd like to do my homework as soon as I get it

Do well in my EPQ - I'd like an A/A* ideally

Don't burn out 🤞

Do some flashcards every night

A little about me - I love to bake and I’m a big Taylor Swift fan (not a fan of tloas though unfortunately!). I love Law and Order SVU and anything miffy.

I would love to say I’d update everyday, but realistically there’s no way that’s happening, so maybe 2 or 3 times a week is better.

:wavey: Welcome to GYG! Im also in year 13 and doing bio, which exam board do you do?
Whats your epq on?
Becoming a teacher is such a great goal! Have you done any work experience or volunteering for this yet?
I also love baking 🙂 Do you have a favourite thing to bake?
Best of luck this year!

Thank you! I’m doing AQA - how about you? Currently trying to wrap my head around respiration 🫠. Are you enjoying bio? My EPQ is about inclusive classroom design, so I’m planning to do an artefact with a model of a classroom! I’ve done some science teaching in a primary school, some work in an SEND school, as well as brownies volunteering which was a great experience. Oooh that’s a hard one - probably cupcakes but I do like to make cookies as well. How about you? Thank you - you too! 🫶

Hi fellow year 13✨
I also love to bake (more on cooking rather than baking as my skills aren't the best 😂) and I just recently got into law and order! I need to properly watch it from the start though😅
Manchester is great, are there any other unis you are considering?

I do OCR, haven’t started respiration yet but just did cellular gene control which is a headache too lol. I love biology, especially stuff on evolution 😁
Thats such a cool epq topic! Id love to hear more about it if you’re happy to share (also fine if not as its for a qualification!)
Sounds like great volunteering experience!
I like making cookies i think

Hello! I did all the same subjects as you and I did EPQ as well! Well done on the grades you've been getting so far and best of luck with your future goals  If you want any advice on your subjects feel free to ask and I'd be happy to answer the best I can

Hi! Omg yes the whole 27 seasons thing definitely put me off at the start! I wish Netflix had more than just like 5 seasons too 💔 I'm applying to Durham, Newcastle, Leeds, and Birmingham as well.

Oooo yes evolution is so interesting! Are you looking to go into something biology related then? Of course - I'm looking at how things like colour, displays, lighting, and noise can be considered when designing a classroom to help to meet the needs of students with special educational needs and disabilities (looking especially at students with speech, language, and communication difficulties). My college is a bit weird and do the EPQ in year 13, so I've only just started with my research, but I'm really enjoying it so far!

I had internal exams all this week :frown:

Monday 6th:

I had my psychology exam which I think went alright! Fingers crossed. I did some 4 and 6 markers on crime and then education for sociology. I also did some biology flashcards (I think? I’m writing this on wednesday based on my study bunny so I’m guessing at that one). Total revision time of 1hr, 42 mins.

Tuesday 7th:

I wanted to do some biology flashcards but the website I use was down ☹️. I focused on making notes for tricky topics, and I then did the seneca for each one. I did an AS paper 2 in the afternoon on my free period. For sociology, I finished my flashcards on labelling and interactionist theories of crime. Not really bothering with psych until my bio and sociology exams are over. Total revision time - 3hr, 54 mins

Wednesday 8th:

Had the day off (sort of) today - Wednesday is my college’s study day. I woke up dead early to try and be an academic weapon (and then regretted it 😔). I did another biology past paper in the morning, as well as some flashcards, and I went over food tests and stages of mitosis. I then had my driving lesson which (I think) went well. Getting closer to my test now! Then I went to get my nails done - top priority obviously. I got cute ladybirds to hopefully bring me some luck. Had my EPQ session in the afternoon, and finally selected a working title. When I got home I reviewed some sociology flashcards for education, as well as looking at globalisation and vocational education. I did even more of biology flashcards, and I went over gas exchange in fish, insects, and mammals (my literal least favourite topic). Total revision time - 3hr, 45 mins

Thursday 9th:

Sociology and biology tests today! Started by doing some biology flashcards, some Seneca, and I went over binary fission and the structure of biological molecules. Reviewed sociology flashcards on ethnicity and gender in education, and then looked at my plans for 4, 6, and 10 marker questions. Spent my last free period in college looking over respiration and photosynthesis, I finished my respiration flashcards and made some condensed notes on both. I then did some blurting on the stages of photosynthesis and respiration, as well as answering some exam questions before having a bit of a menty b about biology. But are you even a biology student if you’re not regularly crying over it?? Total - 3hrs, 16 mins

Friday 10th:

Another bio test today. I finished looking over my respiration and photosynthesis flashcards, then did some more blurting. Did some questions and looked at some notes on required practicals 8 and 9. I think today’s test went okay, a lot better than yesterday’s! Came home and just lay in bed for the afternoon, I'm absolutely shattered after this week. I’m also trying to learn BSL, so I did a bit of that too. Total - 1hr, 24 mins

What app do you use for your bio flashcards? Sorry to hear bio is making you sad :console:
I can finger-spell in BSL cos it was a compulsory language at my first primary

Yes, hoping to apply for Biology at uni 🙂
Great EPQ research so far! It’s always great to hear when a future teacher takes an interest in learning more about students with SLCN, very admirable of you!

Hiya, welcome to GYG! :wavey:

I also study Sociology and have applied to UOM, but for Econ & Pol. The Education course sounds interesting - would you cover mainly the practical side of teaching or does the course branch out more into the study of education generally?

Gosh 27 🫠 but it will definitely keep me interested and there is no way I could binge all of that very quickly 😂
That's really annoying - netflix always lacks the things you want 💔 That's cool! Have you picked a college for Durham?

Thank you! Ooo econ and pol sounds really interesting - where else have you applied? 🙂 It does cover some of the practical side of teaching, but also does branch out, so most courses look at global education, and psych + sociology.
