They are all very good unis. Each has its own strengths. "Which is tthe best" depends on your own personal preferences and criteria, e.g. which subject are you going to take and do you mind the current state of Birmingham municipal?

Which degree subject are you applying for.
Do you meet the entry requirements.
Have you been to an Open Day at any of them.
Have you looked at the course options in detail for each Uni.

Hi there!

Think of it this way:

A) look carefully at the course contents, B) visit them/join online open days, C) think about how far from home you'd like to be, D) what city could suit you best, then...

Number 1- the uni with the course you like best in a place where you like and would be happy to live - your intended firm. Entry requirements should match or be a grade above your predicted grades.

Number 2 - the uni whose course you also like and would be more than happy to do, in a place where you still like but with entry requirements 2-3 grades lower than your predicted grades. This should be your insurance choice.

Numbers 3-5 - other unis which you'd like to aim for - you should like the look of the courses and be prepared to consider one of these as your firm should you not get an offer for your first choice. Entry requirements should be pitched at the level of your predicted grades. These are your realistic choices.

Hoping this helps a bit, best of luck!

Hi there, J1111112238939,

I have studied at Exeter for the last 4 years, so I can give you a bit of an insight into my experience at the uni and also how I ended up choosing Exeter, as Leeds was also on my list when I applied.

When choosing where to apply, consider the whole picture: what do you actually want to study, and does the course the university offers align with the classes you would enjoy, especially those that are compulsory? High on my list when I was choosing was things like what clubs and sports teams a uni offered, if it was a campus uni or a city one and what the social life in the actual city was like. I found one of the things that helped me choose was actually getting to go and visit the uni, as it gave me such a feel for what living and studying there might be like. This is how I ruled out that Leeds wasn't for me because I didn't love the city university feel.

Overall, I have loved my Exeter experience. If I were to go back and pick again, I would definitely choose Exeter in a heartbeat. I found the teaching during my undergraduate was amazing, lecturers made an effort to get to know you and wanted to see students' perspectives. The university has endless societies and sports clubs, which really made my experience. By joining a couple of societies and getting involved in sport, I was able to make friends really quickly and find people who liked the same things as me. I also personally really loved being so close to the beach and the moors, which a lot of other universities that are in cities can't offer. Being able to be in a city and have everything you need close by, but then in the summer head down to the beach on super hot days was awesome.

It's worth looking at all these aspects when choosing which universities you apply to. I personally loved Exeter, but that's because it ticked lots of my boxes as well as delivering first-class teaching. Look at what the specific course you want to take offers at each university, because they will differ between universities. But also do think about what else you might want from a university and the area you will spend 3 years living in, and see if any of those universities have what it is you're looking for.
