Getting into Uni with 2 A levels? I will have enough UCAS points..

I failed an A level but passed my other 2 and am repeating it. if I go through the UCAS process and get enough points for a given course even with only '2.5 A levels' or 2 A levels and an AS level, can I still apply/be successful? For example, accountancy in ulster university only requires 112 points which is doable if I get AA and A (48+48+20 UCAS points). Do I NEED 3 A levels or can I apply just based on points??

Most unis don't use the UCAS points, or if they do, they have specific requirements in addition to them. I spy that the Accounting (Pathways) option at Ulster's website speaks of UCAS points, but it does specifically asks for BBB at A-level, so that's what you'll need. You can still apply though on the basis that you're resitting, but any offers you get will be conditional on you getting a certain grade on your resit.

If they are stating that you need "2.5 A levels' or 2 A levels and an AS level" then clearly you don't meet that with only 2 A levels.

Hi there,

You can apply to uni with your current grades if you wish to apply for a uni which uses points (not many do, but some do). However, have you considered taking a gap year and applying to uni next cycle instead? This will give you the chance to focus on resitting the A-Level you didn't manage to get (alongside working part time to save up some money, travelling, volunteering etc as well as having some headspace to think about what you'd like to do), leaving you with a complete set of 3 A-Levels?

Having your 3 A-Levels completed will likely open a lot more doors for you in terms of what unis you can aim for. It depends on what you'd like/are able to do and it is of course entirely your call, but having a gap year is never a waste of time and may give you more time to prepare for uni as well as setting you up for a better experience when you get there 🙂

I hope this helps and best of luck with whatever you decide to do!
