Do I count as an estranged student on ucas?

Hi all,
My mother passed away in 2021, impacting my school life, etc. and I haven’t had contact with my father since around 2013-2014 one of the two. I’m not adopted or anything, however, I have been living with my grandmother since 2021.

Do you think I count as an ‘estranged student’ on ucas and would be considered for a contextual offer?

Thanks!

I'm so sorry for your loss ☹️ I know how hard not having that support network can be when you're young, and it can definitely impact your education/school life. Just looked it up, and yes you do count as an estranged student as you have no support from either of your parents (even if you're living with another relative). Alternatively, you could count as a bereaved student depending on how old you were when your mother passed. Here's the UCAS pages for both:

Support for students who have been bereaved as a child | UCAS
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the links!! Yeah, it can be tough not going to lie - especially with everyone else having networks and it being the norm, but I’ll get through it! 🙏 I was 13 when she passed so I’m not sure if I’d qualify or not, but yeah. Okay thanks, so I guess when signing up to apply for the unis I’ll just tick the ‘estranged box’. Thanks for your help.
