Picking A - levels

Currently I am in Year 11 almost doing my GCSEs and at school we had a PSCHE day careers and next steps after school. I am considering going to sixth form. However I am conflicted in the A - levels I want to pick. In the future, I know I want to pursue into the sector of BROADCAST JOURNALISM or a COURT REPORTER. The subjects that I considered I want to do for A levels are HISTORY (aqa) , SOCIOLOGY (aqa), MATHS (aqa) AND POLITICS (pearson edexcel). Can I get advice and evaluation on these subjects and how I should study for them.

Hiya!

Thanks @DerDracologe for the ping.

I study both Sociology (AQA) and Politics (AQA) so I'll weigh in on these. My studying technique is the exact same for both, which is amassing a load of flashcards, then doing practice questions, albeit sometimes making notes for politics.

In terms of the content, in AQA Sociology I believe the specification is changing next year, so it might be a good idea to check how its changing to see what they're adding and removing. But currently across 3 papers you'll study Education (P1), Research Methods & Theory (P1 + P3), Crime & Deviance (P3), and your Sixth Form will choose from some available topics for paper 2. I do Families & Households and Global Development. It's all essay based and entrenched in lots of theory, but if you're interested in literally anything from anthropology to religious studies or politics you're likely to enjoy it since there's a lot of overlap.

For politics, I can't speak on Edexcel but I'll give a quick rundown as I believe some of the content is the same. In short, it's quite wonderful but compared to sociology and econ I find it taking up a lot lot more revision time. It covers British Politics & Government, as well as the same for American. Broadly, government is about the political system and how it operates, and politics is about the more public knowledge stuff, including voting behaviour, electoral systems, and political parties. I believe on Edexcel you may do global politics as well as ideologies, with us on AQA just doing ideologies in depth.

Let met know if you have any questions!

On a side note, have you checked the uni degree you're interested in and if your a-level subjects are aligned with their requirements?
