Y11 - The Last Leg

Hi, I’m Nadia and I need to lock in lol, here’s what I’m studying and my grades from the end of Y10:

Maths 8
English Lit 7
English Language 7
Bio 8
Chemistry 8
Physics 8
French 8
RS 9
Geography 8
History 9
Media 9
Oh and last year I took my Music GCSE early and got a 9!!!
I was pretty happy with those but I think I can defo push it for upcoming mocks and ofc the real thing.
I enjoy English (even though it’s one of my weaker subjects), Biology, Physics, Media and Geography. Maths is the most evil thing ever but hey I persevere. Everything else I find ok or a little boring but yk that’s the nature of school.
Other things about me: I LOVE music, it’s 70% of my life, listening, playing and composing music. I play piano ( working to Grade 8), viola(working to Grade 7) and guitar(self taught) but would love to learn more. I also play netball and I am a massive reader. I just finished Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson and currently working through Little Women (does anyone use fable on here?). I have other hobbies, mostly knitting and watercolour but sometimes I game.
So not only do I wanna be on top of things academically I also want to be spending more time practicing and doing things I love (while spending less time online).
Suppose I’ll update this every so often (maybe twice a week minimum idk) and hope you follow along and chat w me. Thanks for reading
I did GCSE music several years ago now and I really enjoyed it. I play the clarinet and I really enjoy it. Best of luck with your mocks and remember to look after yourself!

Update 1: 14/10/25

Well I'm making some progress, I've begun mindmaps for quite few subjects but really I'm just trying to make revision a habit. It's weird, I'd always imagined this would be a super acedemically busy and stressful year, which in some ways it is but mostly it's a good time. Have loads of fun things lined up for the next few weeks, which also means I need to be more focused as mocks will soon be right in front of me eek.
Also exam boards I'm doing:
Maths (Higher) - Edexcel
English - AQA
Sciences (Higher seperate) - OCR gateway
French (Higher) - Edexcel
RS - Edexcel
Geography - Eduquas WJEC (B)
History - Edexcel
Media - OCR

P.s It's my birthday in a week which is super exciting

How are you getting on? I hope you're still having a good time (and had a good birthday! What did you get up to?)

Wow. I took OCR GCSE Music and I was predicted an 8 and got a 3 because there was something wrong with the moderation process. Sucks that when I opened the envelope, I got a bad grade but oh well.

But good luck!! It seems you’re doing great oh my gosh!! Don’t stress about it too much and just know that the work you’re doing is great, all you can do is improve upon that. Maybe it’s not great advice but to keep myself from worrying in my GCSEs I told myself I was just doing mocks XD

@peanutbutterazzy Tysm ur v kind . For history my main revision strategies have been reading through notes, mind maps and blurting. I’ve not done much question practice (apart from in class) but I’ve always made sure that I’m absolutely confident with the question structure.
I personally don’t find flashcards helpful and think blurting is a much more effective type of active recall for this kind of subject.

All the best,
Nadia

UPDATE 12/12/25:

It’s been a while. I’ve been very busy and quite frankly forgot abt this but I may as well give some updates.
I’m in the midst of mocks, the greater bulk of it is over and I only have 4 exams left (Woop woop!).
It’s been pretty ok so far, the only exams that I’ve struggled with are maths non calc (I already knew I would lol) and chem (surprisingly), I just hope I’ve not done awfully. The other exams have been quite solid (English language & lit, History, Bio, Geography and RS).

I’ve definitely not been very concentrated the past few week but managed to scrape together enough revision. Soon it’ll all be over then it will be Christmas, I cannot wait 🤩.

Until next time,
Nadia

Your starting grades are amazing and by results day with the effort you’re putting in you’ll definitely get the grades you want . I did my GCSEs this year and my real grades were anywhere from 1-2 grades higher than my mocks, so idk if you’re aiming for all 9s ( you have the potential to get them ) but you will probably get them if you continue with what you’re doing.

Nice combo, I’m thinking of doing music, English, biology and psychology.

Hello! Happy new year!
It's time to shift gears as days count down eek. I've found myself already easily exhausted by school but I'll work around it. I've not gotten all my mock results back but so far everything is at least a 7 or above. I've not done as well as I'd like to but I suppose that's telling. A funny story: when I got my physics mock back she originally told me 46/90 which was DEVESTATING as it wasn't a brilliuant exam for me but not that bad lmao. But turns out she crazy miscounted and one of the questions was discounted so I actually got 67/84 which is better. For all my sciences so far I've done worse than my year 10 mock but the content was more/different so I can partially forgive myself lol. I'll do a full breakdown once I get all my results back, I'm still waiting on english, chemistry, RS and French writing.

Right now I'm just trying to get back into the swing of things and establish a manageable routine with clubs, hobbies and practising intruments, I'll try and post a little more here as a sort of tracker. Hope everyone has had a nice start of term.

Until next time,
Nadia
