Law at university

Hi, are these good university choices to study law?
- Cambridge
- Warwick
- Exeter
- Nottingham
- York

I am predicted 3 A*s and an A* in EPQ so I was just wondering if these sound like good choices!

Yes to both questions.

Cambridge, though? Bit iffy. The others all good.

Hi maiafair,

That’s a really strong list - you’ve clearly chosen well 😊

From an Exeter perspective, both of the Law courses (the one at Streatham Campus in Exeter and the one at Penryn Campus in Cornwall) are great, but they do have slightly different vibes.

At Streatham, you’ll find a more traditional law school setting - larger, with strong links to big firms, plenty of opportunities for mooting, pro bono work, and networking, and a classic campus feel. It’s great if you’re aiming for a commercial or corporate law path, and there’s loads of careers support to help you get there.

At Penryn, the course is newer and smaller, so you get a more personal experience - smaller seminar groups, more contact time, and a real focus on social justice, environmental, and human rights law. The campus itself has a tight-knit community and a more laid-back atmosphere, which lots of students love.

Both campuses are part of the same university, so you get the same academic standard and support, but with different environments to suit your personality and interests.

With your predicted grades, you’d be a strong applicant - and it really comes down to whether you prefer a bigger, city-based law school (Streatham) or a smaller, coastal campus (Penryn) with a community feel.

Feel free to ask me any other questions!

Be aware that you can apply to just Cambridge at this stage - or Cambridge plus another one or two choices - and then add the remaining choices before the January deadline. This would mean that you can possibly make more strategic choices if you then know you don't have an interview at Cambridge, or you are no longer quite as confident about your potential A level grades. Many schools are not aware that you can do this, and will be putting unnecessary pressure on you to make all your choices now.
