Surface Pro for essay subjects?

Hey, I’m a year 13 doing mainly essay subjects, I plan to do an essay based degree in uni aswell. I’ve been looking at touchscreen/ 2 in 1 laptops for both coursework and essays this year and to last me through uni.
I just bought a surface pro but considering returning it as I’m not sure if it’ll be suitable for essay based subjects for the next few years.

Just wondering if anyone has found the screen size and the whole detachable keyboard okay for writing essays or not? Also since the accessories are usually bought separately, if I need to replace them later on it might be pretty costly, though I’ve heard the lifespan is generally good.

Experiences and any other recommendations for 2 in 1 laptops would be appreciated!

If you can get this for under £200, it would be a great laptop for your needs:
HP 840 G8 Touch

For something more portable, at the expense of a smaller screen, look out for deals on HP 830 and 835 G8's with touchscreens.

I have been deeply unimpressed by the Surface Pro laptops I've come across. Shoddy junk. When compared to properly engineered laptops, such as HP Elitebook 840, 845, 830, 835 G8's.
I personally find touchscreens to be gimmicky. I don't like fingerprints on my screens. And touchpads, ergonomic mice, Wacom tablets are OK input devices. And pen and paper are fine too.
Or there's the solution of getting an iPad to supplement your laptop. Take the iPad to lectures and use the laptop for typing assignments, email, web browsing etc. Spending less than £200 on a really nice laptop will make it easier for you to buy an iPad.
