University choices for law

I am looking at applying to university this year (Y13) and am wondering which universities to pick. My current predicted grades are AAB, with a posibility of upping the B to an A in A-Level Music. I am already considering Leicester (ABB), Northumbria (BBB) and Newcastle (AAA), but am stuck what to do for the rest. I wanted to pick Leeds as another AAA school, but I know that it can be considered a difficult uni to get into for law. My other AAA option would be Sheffield as it is has less competitive law school however I prefer Leeds as a city. For my 5th option, I was considering East Anglia University, (Law with American Law) which has a entry requirement of AAB, but I do not really know anything about UEA or Norwich. Instead of this, I was also considering my home uni with an entry requirement of BBB.
Please can anyone help with which options to choose, give any advice or tell me abit about UEA as a school for law? Thank you

Hi! To be completely honest, I think you’ve answered your own question in your post. Only you can know what’s right for you, what you truly want out of uni and what’s right for you.
I’d say do some research and visit some more open days to fully explore your choices and consider the likelihood of you getting into these schools (think about your PS, entrance exams and predicted grades ect) and then make your choice.
I hope this helps and best of luck to you

Thank you! Yeah I think that I would like to go to Leeds over Sheffield, and might go and visit Sheffield again to confirm this. I was wondering more what to do for my 5th option, and wondered what I should do for that instead? My home uni would be easier to get into and I would have friends etc. but I have an interest in American studies etc. so could you give me advice on that?

Of course! Personally I’d say that following your friends to a uni isn’t the best choice as you’ll meet new people and make new friends. It doesn’t mean you won’t stay friends with them of course, but you’ll all want to meet new people.
I’d also consider the cost and if you would be able to afford living away compared to living at home and which would suit you better based off your financial arrangements.
Also keep transport in mind, as depending on how far away you live from this uni and how would you reliably get there every day compared to living on campus
Maybe see if your local uni has an optional module on American studies or something similar.
I’d say if you’d enjoy the course with American studies, go for that but also consider the other factors around the choice and what would be right for you.
Hope this helps

Going to open days is a great way to see if a uni could be a good for you. Having an aspirational choice is great for motivating you to work hard so an application to Leeds could be beneficial.

Hello! @l.braham 🙂
It's completely normal to feel like you don't know which university to choose, you are not alone!
The biggest tip that would help is to actually visit UEA. There is an open day coming up (the 25th of October) so if you can I'd recommend registering your place.
If you can't attend the open day in person UEA does have a virtual open day where you can explore some of the campus online as well as get more information from your course.
In terms of Norwich and UEA;

Norwich is more of a smaller city so do consider if this is something you would like. Although it is a small city, there is lots of independent shops, cafes ect.. and most of these have discounts for students. As a whole, Norwich has been rated multiple times to be one of the cheapest places for students.

Norwich has a lot of scenery ranging from beaches, The Broads (highly recommend visiting with friends!) and much more. UEA's campus itself is very big with lots of green spaces which is especially nice during the summer.

UEA is a campus university so everything you need will be on campus and within walking distance. For example, there is a Spar shop, laundrettes, bike repair shop etc..

In terms of UEA's Law and American Law course:

Whilst I am not a law student, I have heard that the law department is very nice and accommodating. (The Law school also has a very nice building!)

The law department have a Law Clinic where you can get experience with law in the local community. This is a very helpful thing to be able to add to your CV

I hope this helps, do let me know if you'd like any extra information or if you have any more questions!
Good luck with your application! 🙂
