Revision

What are some effective ways to revise a- level sociology. There’s just too much content and I feel behind. ( I hardly revised in my yr 12 mocks n got a C but my yr 13 mocks r next week and I’m so lost)

Hi @Chanyaa7

I found the best way to revise when there is a lot of content is by going over past papers. If you go through as many past papers as you can then you can identify the areas in which you struggle with as they will be the questions that you struggle to answer the most. If you then jot down the topic of the question that you are unable to answer then you can revise the specific topic to help better your understanding!

There is no point revising content that you already understand, although it is easy to just stick to what you know, you wont actually learn anything from it. Past papers are also excellent at improving exam technique and it makes it easier for you to understand what the examiners are looking for! You can also set up a clock and do the paper under timed conditions so that when it comes to the real thing, it doesn't seem too much out of your comfort zone! Try not to stress, if you can achieve a C with not much revision then just think, you could do amazing revised from now until your exams! Your teacher or fellow students should be able to help you access past papers or a quick google search should be able to provide you with some!

I hope this response has helped slightly, let me know if you have any other questions, I am more than happy to help! Good luck for your mocks and good luck for the real things next summer! Just stick to consistent revision and you will definitely see the rewards in the end!

Thanks, Matt 🙂

There is a very useful website which goes over the AQA A level syllabus, it has study aids and also past papers https://www.thesociologyteacher.com/a-level-sociology

I used to revise by recording my notes onto my phone and playing them over and over again whilst out jogging, works for some, and now I am a social sciences teacher

Thanks for the tips! I tried taking this approach but I just wasn’t fully able to cover all that I’m not confident with, I got a C again but I really don’t want to settle for another one in my last mock and I feel quite down as my predicted grades seem to be another C. I know I can achieve higher though, I really don’t know what else to do other than exam practice and reciting knowledge I know
