stuck on what to do post a-level

i'm in y12, which i know it's early to think about this but i feel the next year will go by too quickly for me to wait to ask. i'm studying a level art, computer science, and history.
i'm also not too sure how much anyone can help but i'm so stuck and i'd appreciate some advice :frown:

i've had a plan for so many years where i would go to uni and study fine art, then go into a career in art, but for some reason i started reconsidering it recently. i thought about travelling around the world for a few years and learning art along the way while doing that, but i can't decide on what i should do, i don't know which would be better.

part of me feels uni would be better, because then i'd have the experience, and a degree (based on my current grades i'd hope a good one), but then i don't know if i can cope with that level of stress. i also would have to work throughout my degree, because my family can't afford to fully fund me and my sister (who is in 3rd year of uni currently), which i also think is making me worry a little.

if i travelled i'd have to work in places around the world, but i also wouldn't have all the deadlines of uni to worry about. i'm also a really high achiever and i originally planned to go to oxford for art, but i also don't know if i'd cope lol

i'd love if someone could give me any advice (i also don't know if this is the right place for this question, sorry)
if i go to uni, i would have to do an art degree, i cannot see myself working in any other field
(i have also asked for a careers appointment in my sixth form but i don't know if i'll be seen before november. i am stressing too much to wait)

This might not be all that helpful but when I was in year 12 (last year) what I thought I wanted to do and what I'm actually now applying to do is SO different lol. At the start of year 12 I was thinking about switching RS to do chemistry and potentially do medicine. I was going to switch biology for history because I wanted to do law. It was only a few months ago that I actually decided that I wanted to do philosophy and then do a law conversion. I have friends who haven't got the slightest idea what they want to do yet. Already knowing that you want to do art puts you in a really good position!!

If I were in your position, I'd probably do a gap year. That's a whole year to figure out exactly what it is you want, whether uni is for you, you can work to earn some money to support yourself in uni, you can travel etc. You have a whole year to think about these things, I wouldn't worry just yet.

My view is that young people should go to uni, if they don't have any other options. This is because uni is a good safety net where you can grow, learn and develop with people who are around your age and going through similar life experiences.

For you, I would suggest that you apply to unis and see how things go. If you are not keen, you dont have to go, but it is important to have a back up option.

Try for Oxford Uni and see where life takes you.

Think about doing a 1-year Foundation in Art and Design course in between school and Uni. It will expose you to a wider range of different art forms, and you will have time to think about exactly what you want to do next, and why - and you would still have time for travel. Nowhere does it say that you can only go to Uni straight from school - many people take a gap-year, or several, and many don't go to Uni at all - Gap Year & Adventure Travel Experts for 18-30's | Gap 360

Examples :
Foundation Art and Design Diploma - North Hertfordshire College
Foundation Diploma in Art and Design | Leeds Arts University
