Non-LNAT University application help.

So, I'm in Year 13, hopefully applying in November but I have no idea what uni I want to go to. I only have Sheffield as number one and University of Law as second but all the LNAT universities are cut off for me, since I wasn't aware of the test and it's too late to apply now. Does anybody have any suggestions for me as I'm applying for Law and Criminology/Psychology dual degree? Or even just Law on its own?

As DH8 has said, what are your predicted grades? There are Russell Group unis asking for AAA/AAB. Uni of Law went into Clearing recent years and you may consider it as the back-up option after results day. Good luck.

Be aware that Uni of Law is a very odd place to study as an Undergrad. They are all essentially just office blocks and don't have any of the usual Uni facilities that would give you anything like a normal student experience.

And - if you are doing a joint subject degree, you will do 'less Law' that someone taking Law as a single subject because half your degree units will be 'not Law'. There will also be timetable and combination clashes that can mean you can't do certain units or pathways and this can be very frustrating. Think carefully about the reality, and why you want to do a second subject.

I'm predicted a BBC but I'm challenging for ABB since I was 3 marks off an A in English and 2 or 1 off a B for Media Studies. However, I'm hoping for a contextual offer based on household income if worst comes to worst.

The higher Russel Group unis have LNAT so I'm barred from them but I've been told things such as King's and Queen Mary's aren't great or Nottingham is so I'm not sure what to do.

I didn't know any of that, to be honest. I wanted to do a dual degree because I thought it'd be interesting to do and it would help me specialize. I didn't realize that they were literally two different subjects on the same timetable. If that is the case, I might just stick to Law on its own.

I know Bath Spa doesn’t have an LNAT but I believe their course is quite heavy on course work. I’ve no personal experience but went to meet my friend who’s there and she loves it!

Hi there,

If you’re looking at Law or Criminology/Psychology, we have some courses at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) that don’t require the LNAT:

If you’d like, you can also chat with a current Law and Criminal Justice student through Unibuddy to hear about their experience: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-students/chat-to-a-student

Best of luck with your applications,

Megan (LJMU Rep)
