Speech and language therapy Personal Statement

Hi! I'm in year 13 and am drafting my personal statement. The course i would like to study at university is Speech and language therapy. I was just wondering what unis look for in a speech and language therapy personal statement?

Useful stuff: I study psychology, geography and art at school. I also did an EPQ about factors causing child aggression. Outside of school, I worked part time at a Sunday school with children aged 6-11, did work experience at a nursery in year 10 and at a primary school with Year 2 students in year 12, did peer mentoring at school with a year 8 student with a learning difficulty, helped out at geography club and school open days occasionally, and I'm a psychology ambassador at school. I have 2 half done online work experiences, 1 about child psychology, 1 about child development.(should i finish those?)

I'm not sure, should I do more work experience/ online work experience?

thank you

Geography club, open days and psychology will not be as relevant, you could still shove them in Q3 but not worth spending more than a sentence on each.

For the work experience - the more recent the better, reflect on what you noticed from a S&L point of view. Can be put in Q1, 2 or 3 realistically. EPQ should go in Q2 and if it can be connected to any of your WEX reflections then do so.

Hi, it sounds like you've built a really solid foundation for your speech and Language Therapy (SLT) application. Honestly, you're doing great.
You can reflect on your nursery and primary school experiences, what you learned about children's communication or learning differences.
Peer mentoring, what it taught you about patience, adapting communication styles and supporting others
Sunday school role, shows experience working with groups, planning and encouraging participation.
You don't need to chase more experience the key is to reflect on what you've already done and how it links to an SLT needs

Most Speech and language therapy spend more time with old adults who have had strokes then with children who have Developmental Language Disorder.

For experience with children see https://afasic.org.uk/volunteer/ for adults talk to care homes etc.
