Materials Science and Engineering

Hi Guys,
I am a resit student currently resitting Maths, Physics and Geography and want to study Materials Science and Engineering in the future. My predicted is A*AA and I am planning on applying to Imperial, Sheffield, Loughborough and then UCL (Science and Engineering for Social Change). I don’t have any other ideas as the other unis that offer materials science (Manchester, Glasgow and Swansea) don’t appeal to me. Does anyone have an idea for a 5th choice that is still a good uni and a similar degree?

Oxford perhaps (although resits plus lack of FM may be a bit of a barrier there). Leeds has I believe a reputable materials programme (they also used to have some nuclear materials stuff through it although I don't know if that's still the case). QMUL have a well established programme and with a lot of biomaterials stuff as I recall if that's of interest.

Southampton doesn't offer materials science directly, but in their mechanical engineering course you cover core materials engineering topics and they have a number of options in materials areas. Granted there's probably a bit less "basic science" of materials and more focus on engineering, manufacturing and applications. Warwick I think has some strengths in materials from a manufacturing perspective albeit have a general engineering degree in a sort of similar vein.

i applied for aerospace last year too and i got an offer from notts! although last year i applied four aerospace and one mech and realised both aren’t for me. my other option would be design engineering but i feel like i would have to mention it a lot in my personal statement an mat sci is my main option. what subjects are you resitting?

oh i see. yh i think design engineering is rlly diff compared to mat sci. i am also applying for warwick engineering business management cuz i rlly enjoyed econ during a levels and its a good option as u get exposure to their engineering and business department. im resitting maths and physics.
