Hello, has the application portal for masters already opened? On the website it says applications should be possible from mid-October but I cannot figure out if I just have not found the link or if it has not been added to the website yet.
Thanks!

Hey everyone,
I am applying to a taught masters at SOAS and would like to strengthen my application with a reference. However, I did not see any section on the application form to add details of my professor. I know references are optional but I really would like to add one if allowed. (How) can I submit one?

Thank you so much for any help!

Yooo! I applied for undergrad languages and linguistics because the course looked awesome, but I haven’t visited before. It’s the only one I chose in London, so what’s accommodation like, and how many arms and legs does it cost?

Hi there,
The postgraduate applications have been opened from September 2026. I will provide the link here. To get started with the application, just click on Step 1 and then on postgraduate taught courses. You can search up the course you would like and once it's been clicked on, you'll see the apply button.

Hope this helps,
Sarah

Hi there,
You can have a look at what the accommodations for undergraduate students look like here. The page has a table which lays out the prices for the different accommodations. If you click on the different accommodations available, you can find pictures of how they generally look like. I would also recommend booking a campus tour, as you haven't visited before, to get a feel of how the university is.

Hi there,
You can email [email protected] with your reference and ID number, the admissions team will update it from their end. But, still do submit your application as well through the normal process for postgraduate courses.

Hope this helps,
Sarah

Heya, I'm interested in applying for the BA in Korean for 2026, just wondered if anyone knows if the list of universities you can apply to for the year abroad changes each year or does it stay the same as the ones listed on the website?

I'm pretty sure it stays the same, I'm doing Chinese and when I went open day, the person their had a fixed list for every single language year abroad

It ain't cheap, the best one is the Dinwiddy house, it's only like 15 mins walk from campus and you get your own toilet but it's like 9,500 a year, that's the one I'm planning on applying too

Hi there,
The list of universities that are available for the year abroad are not fixed, they are subject to changes depending on availability and partnerships. This also, however, does not mean it will definitely change each year. Despite the potential changes in the university list, many students do still enjoy the study abroad programme due to being able to explore a different city and the cultures there. Any specific queries about the study abroad programme can be sent to [email protected] .

Hope this helped,
Sarah 🙂

Hi,
Sorry it is taking so long to get a response, I understand how stressful it can be. We currently have a large inflow of applications, we aim to get through them as quickly as possible. The admissions team are working very hard with getting through them all especially with a new system that is being used. They will try their best to get back to you as quickly as they can.

Good luck!
Sarah 😀

Hi I am considering applying for he MSc Politics and International Relations at SOAS and would like to ask whether group work is a common type of assessment in modules. If yes, how many percentage points do they usually cover of the total grade andis it usually presentations or will there also be group papers? I am bit worried, as I have had really mixed group work experiences in undergrad. Also, does anyone know when places in the programme usually fill up? Is it too late to send the application off in December?

Many thanks!

Hi there,
I am sorry to hear your experience of group work has not been great. The assessments for that course seems to be mostly independent work however, the format of your assessments is not fixed. This would depend on the modules that you decide to take up. There is the possibility that you get group work in one of your modules, whether this be presentations or group papers. The percentage in which this would cover for the total grade again is also not confirmed as this is subject to change too depending on the module convenors. I would advise emailing the course convenor Dr Alastair Fraser to see how the modules have been assessed previously.

Hope this has helped!

Anyone got an offer from SOAS yet, it's been over 3 weeks for me. I've gotten an offer from every single other uni except for SOAS so far

Hey, does anyone know if we can attach proofs of internships and recommendation letters from internship supervisors to our CV when uploading it in the portal? Am applying from outside the UK for a masters and did not find any information about that on SOAS´ website.
Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

You can add proof to your CV but when you are applying you can attach files separately as well. There is a reference section where you can upload recommendations letters separately.

Hope this helps. Have a great weekend!
