Optometry vs Dental hygiene and therapy 2026
I’m applying this year but I don’t know whether I should apply to optometry or dental hygiene and therapy, does anyone have further knowledge about their stability as career paths or chances of further progression? I’ve been told optometry is becoming oversaturated and salaries are decreasing but it would be more realistic to be able to open your own practice as an optometrist rather than a dental therapist as usually dentists would own those practices (ie. As a dental therapist you will always be working under someone else rather than owning something yourself) any advice would be appreciated
