Will I like Edinburgh University

Hi guys I’m nearing the end of my sixth forms cut off for UCAS applications and I am not sure whether I should put Edinburgh as one of my choices, unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to see it. I was hoping you guys would help me figure out whether I’d like the uni lifestyle and uni in general. I want to study management, other unis I’m applying to include Surrey bath reading and Exeter. I have been to Edinburgh city a few times before and loved it and it’s where all my family’s from (they don’t live there currently). Anyways I want to see from other people’s perspective of what the University of Edinburgh is actually like as websites only tell you so much from a biased perspective.

Look for the Edinburgh campus tour and Uni Open Day films on YouTube - you will find 'tourist' films there about the city itself as well.

I didn't Go to Edinburgh university as went to Edinburgh Napier university, I'm a Edinburgh resident born and bred,

Yeah Edinburgh is a brilliant city and it's a big vibrant place especially during August when they have the Edinburgh military tattoo and the international festivals when Edinburgh is absolutely buzzing with tourists. Then there's the 3 days Hogmanay festival leading up to the bells at midnight and celebrating the New year.
Then you have outside of the festivals big Pop stars concerts either at murrayfield stadium or the castle esplanade ( before and after the Edinburgh tattoo as they use the stands). And under from about early August until mid May every year you will have every weekend football supporters coming in and out of Edinburgh to go to either tynecastle or Easter road ( yes there's any two local Edinburgh teams but they only get a handful of supporters compared to full stadiums almost at tynecastle and Easter road).

Lots of pubs, clubs and restaurant to go to all over the city as a student but you can get more information from the university union itself on where you can go if you get into Edinburgh university. Lots of places to visit as well,

Finding somewhere to live in Edinburgh is a issue as you'll know it's a expensive place to live estate within the city centre of Edinburgh so it's probably best to get something slightly further out of the city centre perimeters as cheaper, you have university accommodation but can be more expensive than renting privately but researching is absolutely important to find something that suits you.

I would also suggest you get some more information about Edinburgh from your relatives ( when they were starting there) for more of there experience in Edinburgh.

Good luck with your application for Edinburgh university xx

Hi anonymous,

I’m at Exeter, so I can share a bit about what life and studying management here is like to help you compare.

Exeter has a really good Business School - the management course is well respected and quite flexible, with lots of options to tailor your degree around areas like marketing, analytics, or sustainability. The teaching style combines theory with practical projects and group work, so you get a good mix of academic and career-focused learning.

In terms of student life, Exeter’s campus is beautiful - very green, self-contained, and easy to get around. The city itself is smaller than somewhere like Edinburgh, but it’s super student-friendly, with loads of cafés, pubs, and events, plus a good nightlife scene. It’s got a nice balance between a busy social life and a relaxed atmosphere.

The community feel is probably one of Exeter’s biggest strengths - it’s friendly and easy to meet people through societies, sports, or your course. And the Career Zone here is great if you’re thinking ahead to internships or placements in management or business-related fields.

If you loved Edinburgh as a city, you’d probably enjoy it as a uni too, but Exeter offers a similar mix of strong academics and great quality of life - just on a smaller, more close-knit scale.

Hope this helps 🙂
