Year 13s: What's the most important thing to you when comparing universities?

Poll

What would you most want to see when comparing universities / courses? (choose as many as you like)

There are so many factors students need to shift through when making a decision on which universities they would like to apply to.

We wanted to know, what is the most important data you would seek out if you were comparing between two universities?

What are the things you hold as the most important when stuck between two choices? We've added a poll above, please choose as many as you would like as we know there isn't just one factor when picking where you want to go to university.

Let us know what you think below, and if there is anything else TSR could be doing to help support students making those big decisions about their next educational steps. 👾

None of these will tell you
a) whether the course is right for you
b) whether you'll be happy
c) if the course structure and assessment will suit you

All such info in your list is not mathemtically valid as the sampling is faulty.

As above - choosing your University choices based on any sort of league table or rankings 'data' really is about as reliable as just tossing a coin or sticking a pin in a map.

I think that ranking does matter but for example between oxford and cambridge it doesn't matter so much

Generally i look at the course structure, what societies they have, what support they claim to have for disabled students, how green the campus is and how busy the campus is (the latter 2 are best judged on open days)

It really doesn't as it's not done scientifically

You should look at Exeter for a beautiful campus

Why is distance important? I chose somewhere too far for my parents to decide to 'drop in'

As a user, you’re unable to select multiple options, the poll only lets you select 1 option.

And, please note, it doesnt include COURSE CONTENT, or the possibility of a work-placements/study abroad, etc etc as any of the options - which is what most sensible people base their choices on. All in all, a daft poll.

That's fixed now, thank you for flagging

You expect TSR to be sensible in what it pushes? One of the reasons I stay on here is to try and balance the Oxbridge/RG hype.

Sadly, I don’t think that the average TSR user or Redditor cares about that (coming from experience).

I think that the poll options are the most representative of what your average Y13 TSR user cares about. Or probably Y13 user in general.

Which is why TSR shouldn't be encouraging this silly way of choosing a degree course!

Exactly! I'm disappointed to see this thread tbh.

One can only assume that TSR is being paid by someone with an agenda about rankings.
Irresponsible.

That is true! I will say I did look at rankings when considering my choices - mostly because it was easier to explain to my parents as well why a uni was “good” - but the most important thing for me was the range of a course. I’m interested in a lot of things and I don’t want to feel limited by what a uni offers ^_^
