Applying for psychology at York with AAC predicted

Hi, i want to apply for psychology at York (entry requirements say AAA) but ucas says i still have a chance of getting in + I’ve been predicted an A in psych- what are the chances, should i just go for it?

Worth a shot if you really want to go there, nothing bad about having an aspirational choice if youre willing to work on your third subject this year

As above - its worth having one risky choice, but be prepared for No. Just make sure that your other choices are more realistic and that you have an obvious lower grade Insurance choice.

Thank you- the other choices I’m applying to have lower grade requirements, so I’ll give York a shot!

Best of luck with your application!
Hey ☺️

Really happy to hear you want to study Psychology at York!

If you're predicted AAC and York requires AAA for Psychology, it’s definitely still worth applying, especially since you're predicted an A in Psychology which is the most relevant subject.

There are certain situations where Universities do can accept students who miss their offers slightly, especially if the rest of your application is strong (personal statement, references, possibly admissions test or interview if required). However there are also contextual offers which York offers, if you are eligible! Clearing is also an option if it came to that, many students come to York through Clearing and find their place here.

Here’s what you should consider:

Go for it as one of your 5 choices - you’ve got nothing to lose by applying.

Make sure your personal statement is strong and shows real interest in psychology, including any relevant reading, work experience, or research. We have guidance on writing a strong personal statement.

It’s smart to include at least one backup choice with lower entry requirements than your predicted grades, just in case.

If your GCSEs and references are strong, that can also help your case.

So yes, go for it, but apply strategically to keep your options open. Sometimes students with slightly lower predictions or results do get offers, especially if departments are flexible or you're a strong fit in other areas.

Good luck! 💛
