Leaving halls

My daughter is currently at ntu started in first yr sep 25. Wanting to move out of halls and already paid for the first term but been advised will still have to pay for the first yr. Any advice on how to not have to pay
Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear your daughter isn't enjoying halls. I cannot speak for the policy at NTU but what a couple of friends of mine did when they wanted to swap accoms was to get in contact with the accommodation team. Perhaps you could ask if there is any formal route you can go down to officially move out/reverse the contract due to her circumstances. No guarantees this will lead to anything, but if there is a compelling reason why she needs to move out then its worth asking the question.

In the meantime, perhaps it would be worth her talking to NTU's wellbeing team to see if talking to someone about her situation would help.

Sorry I couldn't be of much more help!

As far as I'm aware you have to pay for the full year .

Hello,

I’d recommend your daughter review her accommodation contract carefully, paying close attention to the termination clause. If she wants to move out early, her best option is usually to arrange a tenancy takeover finding someone to take over the remainder of the contract. She can advertise the room on local Facebook groups etc. If she’s in university-owned or managed halls (rather than a private rental), she can also contact the accommodation office for support and to ask about re-advertising the room internally.
