Questions about 2nd year accommodation in Oxford (Brookes)

Brookes that is. How much should I expect to pay? When do I need to start looking? Where are the most student housing? Will I be competing with Ox Uni students? Does anyone get let back into halls? Thank you!
@OxfordBrookesRep Can you help the OP?

Hello,

These are some great questions! For university halls, Brookes lists a typical range of around £135–£240 per week for self-catered rooms (all undergraduate halls give exact weekly rates on their pages, which are summarised here). Private PBSAs (purpose-built student accommodations) and private houses are often higher (especially en-suite rooms or modern PBSAs). The living costs guidance page gives a good overview of an average student's expenses, and I recommend giving it a look.

If you want to stay in halls (returning student), Brookes opens a returning-student booking window, and it’s usually announced in advance and is self-book, first-come, first-served. Some blocks/flats are designated for continuing students, so if staying in halls for year 2 is important to you, be ready to book as soon as bookings open. The dates for this year are set to be announced in December. Keep an eye on the Accommodation Portal and your student email so you can book quickly when the window opens. If you’re aiming for private lets / PBSA, I’d recommend starting to search and viewing from semester 2 / January–February. Most Brookes students based at Headington Campus live in Headington, Cowley (Cowley Road), Marston, Barton, and Wood Farm - these are the usual student hubs with lots of halls, PBSA, and private houses. If this is of interest, here is the finding other accommodation page.

With competing for accommodation, you would not be competing with the general public or University of Oxford students for Oxford Brookes halls or residence places - Oxford colleges manage their own undergraduate accommodation. On the private rental market and PBSAs, there’s competition for private houses and PBSAs because Oxford’s rental market is in high demand and moves fast.

Oxford’s rental market is busy, but Brookes gives returning students a clear pathway to stay in halls if they want to. If you choose private lets, being organised (documents, deposit, guarantor) and starting your search in semester 2 will put you in a strong position. If you have any queries, please contact the accommodations team - their details can be found here.

Thanks,
Dan
