Lae application for 2026 entry

I’m going to apply to lae and I really hope I’ll get a provisional offer but I’m not sure if my grades are good enough
These were my year 10 projected grades
Maths 8
Chem 8
Bio 9
Physics 9
English lang and lit 8
Music 9
French 9
Geo 7
Computer science 8
I want to study maths further maths bio and chem and I know fm requires a projected 9 but I think I’ll be able to get that for my mocks this year. If I got a 9 in chem and maths do you think I’ll be able to get a provisional offer from lae with my other subject grades?

It depends a lot on if you get an offer, and what subjects you want to take. I will say that for your cohort entry should be quite a bit easier since LAES will be taking in a lot more year 12s next year due to us moving to our new building. Here's my advice though:

(If you get an offer)
If you want to take humanities - Just meet the entry requirements and you should be fine, grade requirements on these arent too strictIf you want to take
STEM - These are a LOT more competitive, aim for an APS of around 8.0 for your top 8, even if you get an offer

(If you don't get an offer)

If you don't get an offer it depends a lot on what subjects are free, but I know people who didn't get offers and got in on the day for the subjects they wanted. You'd need exceptional grades for this if you want to do STEM (mostly 8s and 9s), again humanities will be more relaxed on the requirements.

My stats were as following (for Maths, Politics, Economics, Philosophy):
Predicted - 99888887 (8.1 APS)
Achieved - 99988877 (8.1 APS)

In your specific case, I'd say if you don't get a predicted 9 you're better off aiming for brampton or ncs since your grades are exceptional but it's hard to change to further maths on the day if your offer doesnt contain it. Otherwise, by all means apply and you should definitely be a competitive applicant

Thank you so much for the reply!!! I’ll try to get a 9 in my mocks this time as I was only three marks off last year. I’m going to apply to ncs and Brampton asw but lae is the closest to me so I rlly hope to get an offer. I’m glad to know that they’re accepting more students now tho
Thanksss

Hey, ik this reply is late but I think you have a good chance of receiving a provisional offer with your grades. I know someone who took all the same subjects as you at GCSE (except for music), their predicted grades weren't as high as yours but met the requirements, and they enrolled and studied bio, chem, maths and econ at LAES.

Also, I'm applying for the same subjects (debating fm) and taking almost the same GCSEs as you, so I just wanted to wish you good luck! Hopefully we both get in!

Omg ok that’s good cuz my friend got 12 9s and an 8 and he said most of the people that go lae have at least over 6 or 7 9s but ig not. Also did the person you know have any priority over the rest of us, eg free school meals or lives in newham cuz I read their oversubscription thing and I don’t have any priority whatsoever 😭 so the grade requirement might be a bit higher. Thankss

Lots of people here have crazy grades (all my friends have 6+ nines) but its not like you NEED to get that high to enrol. I got 3 nines and 3 eights and enrolled with no issues. If you don't have any priority it'll be harder to enrol but if you get an offer and meet it you'll still have a high chance of enrolling in august.

He didn't have any priority (I just checked), he didn't live in Newham either, he just had the necessary grades lol

Can you not change ur subjects from the ones on your offer at all?

You can but it would be especially hard for FM seeing as the classes are usually full after enrolment.

Ok I did better on my tests this term so my predicted grades should be higher now
9 maths
9 bio, chem and physics
9 French
9 music
8 geo
8 English lang and lit
7 computer science
These should be good enough for them right cuz if they’re not I’m literally gonna cry 😭

Yeah should be fine, no guarantees but that's better than a lot of people I know who got in
