resits and ppe

planning to apply to ucl, warwick and durham for ppe (next year).. i have good grades in other subs . Bs in bst, econ, As in english, sociology, human bio and A*s accounting, history, commerce, geography, computer science. UCL requires a C grade for gcse math whereas warwick and durham want an A and above.

Thing is.. My math foundation is SO bad as I spent 4 yrs not in secondary education, solely relying on myself with no tutor support and only books. I got a U last year, resitting again this time and despite trying harder, It doesnt seem to be going well. Paper was shambles, and everyone else agreed, idk why its harder now than in M/J. I MAY have to resit next M/J, this time I'll definitely need a tutor and hopefully my parents will understand 🥲

Just wanted to know how unis will look upon me resitting gcse maths thrice? Would it matter even if I get the grade required? Its the only subject I'm so bad in, and it makes me hate myself lol

Good afternoon,

It's great to hear that you are planning to apply to a university. Well done on your grades so far.

Universities don't usally look at resits as a negative aspect of your university application. If you reflect on it in your personal statement showing why you resat and what you learned from the experience, this could make your application stronger. If you are truly concerned, I recommend contacting the university directly and speaking with the admissions team, as they will be able to provide you with the most accurate information.

Good luck with your exams.

All the best,
Ella
