Unconditional Offer Chances

I'm a resit student with BCC achieved in bio, psych and chemistry with A*AB predicted. I'm also a contextual student. I just wanted to know if there are any chances that I could get an unconditional offer for diagnostic radiography because I really don't have it in me to resit my A-levels (particularly psychology). I applied to Liverpool, Exeter, Leeds, Cardiff and Salford.
Thanks

DR is competitive and you don't appear to meet the entry requirements for some of the contextual offers. Do you have strong shadowing and work experience?

Hi,

Thank you for getting in touch, it’s great to hear about your interest in studying Diagnostic Radiography. I just want to start with saying I am not part of the admissions team at Salford so everything I say is more generalised advice based on previous experiences.

In terms of offers, most universities, including Salford, typically make conditional offers with one of the conditions being achieved grades. I know your predicted grades were A*AB, but I believe we will base offers off of the achieved grades of BCC.

However, your application will always be considered holistically - we will look at your application as a whole and not just your grades. As you mention you are a contextual student/ applicant, if you have experiences in the field this would be taken into consideration as well.

While unconditional offers are not common for this course, your contextual status and achievements will certainly be taken into consideration during the selection process, but there are no promises you will get an unconditional offer.

If you’d like to discuss your individual circumstances in more detail, you’re very welcome to contact our course enquiries team at, who can advise further based on your specific profile.

To email our course enquiries teams it would be [email protected] they take up to five days to respond to any email.

You can also give them a call on 0161 295 4545 between the hours of 10am and 4pm, Monday - Friday

Best wishes,
Matt ~ Uni of Salford Rep

Hello I volunteered in a hospice for 6 months and worked in a pharmacy for 1 year plus. I wasn't able to get work experience in an actually radiography department. I also completed a MOOC in radiography

Your work/volunteering experience is very strong. It's still worth pursuing a day of shadowing experience in a hospital radiography department (they are more open to requests for a day or half a day of shadowing rather than longer periods of work experience). Use any contacts you have in healthcare (friends, family, neighbours) to try to get in and also consider private healthcare providers. Also watch some 'A day in the life of a DR' videos online that are produced by NHS trusts. When you write your PS, reflect on what you have learnt in your work/vol experience and relate it to the NHS values.

If you're not going to retake A levels, consider applying to those unis that also offer a foundation year for DR. By doing this you should automatically be considered for the foundation year if you don't receive an offer for the main course. Prepare well for interview:

If you are going to resit, then you don't need to play safe. My advice was on the assumption that you weren't retaking as you stated in your OP that you didn't want to.

Could they still give me unconditional offers (e.g., Exeter as contextual is BCC) based on my achieved grades?

Yes they can if they accept your achieved grades.
