SQE/TC/ masters

ahh! I’m in my third year of my law degree and need some advice if anyone is willing to help a very confused undergrad!

In short, I know that I would like to go into the sector of Wills and probate- law of succession, qualifying as a solicitor.

However, I had a few questions about the process if anyone is willing to help me out.
My plan was to do a SQE based masters. Meaning, I would do 1 year of work in preparation for my SQE 1+2, followed by a 2 year training contract or paralegal work. (Paralegal work qualifies as 2 years QWE under SRA)

Can someone please confirm whether after my year doing a masters in preparation for the SQE, that id do the SQE exam straight after or if i would have to wait to do the exam after the 2 years QWE.
Or - would the route be that I do the 1 year masters in preparation for the SQE1+2, jump into a 2 year TC/QWE, then complete my exam after.

This might seem like the most random question and you’re probably thinking why do I not know this already. However, I thought i had it in control until other factors popped up and made me self doubt. I would just like confirmation that i can do

Masters SQE1+SQE2 2 years training contract
Or
Masters SQE1+SQE —- 2 years QWE

And if i would complete the SQE before or after the 2 year training contract or QWE?

Hopefully this makes sense, thank you! (Apologies, this is a ramble).

Hello!

You will most likely be sitting the SQE1&2 exams during your masters. I am currently doing the LLM Legal Practice (SQE1&2) course at the University of Law. The course is structured so that you get taught the content for SQE1, sit the SQE1 exam, get taught the content for SQE2, then sit the SQE2 exam. You have to book them separately as they are external to the university, but your masters course will leave specific gaps during the assessment windows for you to take them! You do not have to book the exams in those gaps, but it makes for a much smoother process.

Technically, you can complete your QWE before you sit the SQE exams, but if you do a training contract, the TC will always be after you finish the SQE exams. It is worth noting that not every paralegal job will be QWE - it must be signed off by your firm/supervisor, so you should ask about this when you apply! The usual route is to do the QWE after you sit the SQE, but this is not a requirement.

I hope this is helpful!
