I can't pick where to apply to

Is it worth applying to the University of Exeter if my predicted grades are BCC and entry requirements are AAB - ABB?
The predicted grades I got were from my first set of mocks, but I won't have the chance to apply after the next set of mocks.

My brother had predicteds of BCC and got offers from 4 out of his 5 choices which were all asking more than his predicteds - mostly asking AAB if I remember correctly. It depends on the course, Uni and how popular course is. His offers were the asking grades so above his predicteds and then he still got a place on results day even though he had only achieved his predicteds. Just write a really good PS. Its worth a shot. They want your money and it will all come down to the numbers. He was Exeter but had Exeter scholars contextual. If your course often comes up in clearing though you may still get an offer/be accepted at lower grades. Its worth a shot. And its worth putting aspirational choices and more realistic ones as a back up. Best of luck.

Exeter does like to pitch itself as competitive and therefore with high grade requirements - when in reality, for some courses, they seem to take anyone who is upright and breathing on Results Day.

I went to my teachers and asked what can I do to improve my predicted grades. They’ve recommended that I do past papers to help form my predicted grade. I also attend intervention/revision sessions as well as working on my coursework. My mocks are in Nov so that is the point when grades change the most but that may not be the only factor involved in the process. If there is anything you can do to help improve your grades then do it

Hi Bored-soul,

There's some really good advice on this thread. I would definitely say talking to teachers about your grades and revision in the run-up to applying to university. I applied to 1 university above my predicted grades, 2 at my predicted grades and 1 below. Personally, knowing that I had 3 Unis that I felt confident I could meet the grade requirements for, if I got an offer, made me feel confident in applying to an ambitious uni too. I ended up firming Exeter as my first choice as I researched more into each university and realised it offered lots of other things I wanted from my University experience. I think if you really like Exeter as an option, then be ambitious and give it a go! Balance it alongside the other Universities you apply to and, as you get further through the year and get your offers in, you will know more about your grades and which uni you might want to attend!

Good luck,

Amelie (University of Exeter Student Ambassador)
