LNAT: access arrangements/ special consideration/ Christopher Boulle

I recently took my LNAT exam and was not granted my approved access arrangements. I applied for special consideration, but this was denied by Christopher Boulle (LNAT director and COO). My college teachers and I have been corresponding with him at length - his replies have not only been unhelpful, but blatantly rude and patronizing. Has anyone had similar experiences with him? If so, what was the outcome, and if possible, how were you able to get this resolved?

I didn't do my LNAT exam but I do have approved access arrangements. Since he's refusing/has refused to give you them, I suggest you hope for the best for your exam (I hope you get good results) and if it doesn't go your way, mention it, or get your teacher's reference, about how he denied your access arrangements so you were at an disadvantage, when applying to wherever.

Besides, all of that, I suggest saving all them emails he sent you/your teachers in a separate folder. It's a bit dramatic but you can sue him. He's failing to follow the JCQ guidelines and (debatably) violates the Disability Rights Act. Plus, he's being rude and patronizing. Even if you don't get the results you want, you can still get money out of him if you try.

But like I said, the suing is a bit dramatic but if you've already done the test, then you should trust your skills and make sure it's mentioned at least once during your application and/or interview. That way, you get 'benefit of the doubt' and a better chance at uni. Otherwise, not much else you can do.

I had a similar experience, except mine were granted in the end!! I emailed as soon as LNAT bookings were open to discuss Exam Access and he said no, my diagnosis wasnt substantial enough as there was ‘no mention of needing extra time’, i assumed my diagnosis would be god enough. So I then had to get written and signed evidence from my college (absolute faff, and more time wasted) to then send it to him again! In the end it was sorted but it spanned from 01-11th September. Made me so anxious that I wouldnt find a space near me to sit it! Managed it though and sat mine last saturday!!

How did yours go in the end? I cant imagine how difficult it must have been for you if you need EA. I had 20 seconds left on MCQ with ET and I ran completely out of time with no time to proofread on the essay!! Im so sorry you had such an awful time, I cant imagine it.

Thanks so much for your reply. My arrangements had already been approved, but they were not applied at the test centre. It’s the special consideration that he is refusing to give. The vice principle and head of careers and UCAS at my school have both contacted him but he isn’t agreeing with them either. Was it someone specific at your school who he listened to? Like someone who has a certain role?

Thank you for the advice . I have no interest in suing him for money or anything like that, I just want a fair university application

WHAT???? Thats so messed up omg?? And honestly, it was just him and I messaging back and forth, nobody else but I request the documents from my school; the JCQ exams access requirements form and then a signed letter from my college SEND manager. I cannot fathom why you wouldn’t get special consideration?? I will be, because there was a blasted intruder alarm that was blaring for 10 mins of my exam; thats inconsiderable compared to you not having the arrangements at the test centre?? Thats disgusting

Then just mention it in your application or interview/ask your teachers to add it to your reference. Any decent uni will take it into consideration for you. I'd still keep the emails if I were you but that's just a me preference, not something necessary. Good luck on your LNAT and applications.
