Applying for Finance Degree with my predicted grades

I got my predicted grades as below:

Alevel maths -b
Alevel -psychology -c
Alevel - Business Studies -c

I want to do a finance, or accounting and finance, or a fintech degree.

Is it worth me applying to universities like Southampton or Loughborough with higher entry requirements, as i really wanted to go to either one of these. Also if i apply and then reject me, can I still apply through clearing to them.

Also i am looking reading, Portsmouth. Those are my safer options, but still no sure if I will get in to any of these.

What happens if all 5 uni's reject you, can you apply again for another uni, or you have to wait for clearing.

Any advice on these questions.

If you apply and get rejected you’d need to wait for clearing, you can’t change your options once you’ve picked the 5; it’s usually safer to apply where your predicted grades are closer to the requirements. I’d email the universities first & ask them if it’d be possible, worth a try!

How much higher?

I think some are asking for AAB, or ABB, are these too high.

Can I email the universities then beforehand to see what they think before I apply.

Also are there are finance degrees with lower entry requirements

Applying to any Uni asking for A grades for a competitive course like Finance with predicted grades that far below - honestly, your chance of an offer is essentially zero. Realistically you should be looking at BBB /120 points for one choice, and then well below that for your other choices. A degree with a Foundation year course at a 'better' Uni would be an option.

Finance and Investment BSc(Hons) (Brighton)
Accounting with Finance | University of Portsmouth
BSc (Hons) in Business and Finance at Oxford Brookes University
BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance | Undergraduate course | Liverpool John Moores University
Accounting and Finance with Foundation Year BSc | University of Leicester

i am looking more towards reading university if i can get an offer there. Could i get a conditional offer....

Reading wants ABB - and you are predicted BCC.

Hi! It's so great to see you're thinking of Southampton 🥳

I can only repeat what others have said here - if you apply to universities and you're rejected by all, you'll need to wait until Clearing to go through that application process. But also, yes you're right, you'll be able to apply through Clearing to one of these universities if you get the grades they're looking for in Clearing and if they have space. I say if they have space, because they might have a full course and so might not open for Clearing.

Have you considered having two lists to prepare for both outcomes?

One list of courses which your grades would qualify you for

and then one list of universities you'd want to apply to through Clearing if they have space

Also, if you'd like to email the university to check about grades, the admissions contact details will be on the bottom of the course listing page for you! 🤩

Good luck!

Hi,

Reading offer a foundation year across finance, you can find out more here.
I did a foundation year in business and management and it was great, Reading is a place where everyone is supported and our foundation year only requires CCC! within the year you are taught all you need to know to excel in your degree and it bridges that gap between a levels and a degree, you will receive personalised support to achieve your best!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

At London South Bank University (LSBU), I’d say it’s definitely worth applying to universities like Southampton or Loughborough if they’re your dream choices, even though your predicted grades (B in Maths, C in Psychology and Business Studies) are below their typical entry requirements. At LSBU, we’re known for supporting students from all backgrounds, and we often provide flexible entry routes or foundation years for applicants who show potential, even if their grades are slightly below standard. If you apply to places like Southampton or Loughborough and don’t receive an offer, you can still apply to them through Clearing if they have vacancies though there’s no guarantee they will lower their requirements. If all five of your choices reject you, you won’t be stuck; you’ll be eligible to apply again through Clearing once results are out. My advice would be to focus on writing a strong personal statement, consider all your options carefully, and aim to get the best grades you can you’ve still got time to open more doors.

Hi @gavss7777 ,

Yeah, so if you apply through Clearing, you still get guaranteed accommodation in Halls of Residence, as long as you apply for it within the deadline the University sets, and they would inform you of this. This was the case for me, personally, as I came to Southampton through Clearing.

Hope this helps!
