Hi, I'm in Y13 and just submitted my application for bio at Oxford but I was pretty much in your spot last year. I'd say do loads of super curriculars starting as early as you can meaning work experiences, EPQ, online courses, giving presentations and especially entering loads of competitions (Look online, there are loads!) as winning one really helps. I got lucky enough to win one last minute and it just made my statement look so much more impressive as they show quality as well as enthusiasm for the subject. Also, reading around the subject (what i'm doing rn for interview prep) will just help with everything, Good luck! Your GCSE's are great and sounds like you're already quite prepared so well done!

I get what you mean about wanting to win a significant one but winning any shows that you're really passionate and good at your subject (as long as its vaguely related to your subject) here's a list of the good ones i've found for bio/ chem just make sure the task is something you're interested in so your work will be of better quality and it'll help in interview: Top of the Bench: https://edu.rsc.org/enrichment/top-of-the-bench, Annual DNA Essay Contest: https://www.ashg.org/dna-day/, The Oxford Scientist Schools' Science Writing Competition: https://oxsci.org/schools-competition/, Minds Underground: https://www.mindsunderground.com/minds-underground-competitions, UK Biology Olympiad: https://ukbiologycompetitions.org/british-biology-olympiad/, Cambridge Chemistry Challenge: https://www.c3l6.com/, Schools' Analyst Competition: https://edu.rsc.org/enrichment/schools-analyst, Cambridge Chemistry Race: http://chemistryrace.com/, UK Chemistry Olympiad: https://edu.rsc.org/enrichment/uk-chemistry-olympiad, Tonbridge’s Annual Science Conference: https://www.tonbridge-school.co.uk/post-detail-page/~board/school-news/post/young-scientists-share-research-at-tonbridges-annual-science-conference. PS, i'm now realising that's a lot of links but better to have the options? Hope you find something you like. Oh, also, the one I won was the ZSL prince phillip award and marsh prize, it's really respected and comes with a large cash prize and was a really fun Bio experience, if you decide to enter i'd be happy to help!

You're welcome! if you have any questions about the competition or want any advice just lmk, I'd recommend applying to anyone interested in biosciences and applying to a competitive uni.
