Transferring for EEE.

Hi. I recently started studying EEE at QMUL. The uni is okay but I actually find the course interesting so far and I have met cool people there. However, some people have told me that I could have gone somewhere better with my AAA grades. I was thinking of maybe transferring into a better uni outside of london after I finish my first year here. Do you think my potential is actually limited if I stay at QMUL? What unis ( that accept 2nd year transfers) would be the best to transfer into for EEE if anyone knows? Would I have to apply through ucas normally as if I would for my 1st year?

What do you think another Uni is going to give you that QMUL can't?
And why did you apply there?

Better graduate aspects since it is ranked higher? I got in through clearing because I got rejected by my firm.

Employers don't use 'rankings' as a sift - and even academics don't take them seriously.
Stay where you, you'll be fine.

Your potential is definitely not limited by staying at QMUL.
QMUL is a respected Russel Group university, especially in engineering and STEM. Many students go on to strong careers or postgraduate study from there, just take a quick look at their alumni's on lined in, etc. Your potential depends more on what you do during your degree, projects, internships, grades, networking, than just the name on your degree.
But lets say you really wanted a slight edge, how would you to a different university second year?

Most do not use UCAS for 2nd-year transfers. You’ll need to:

Contact admissions directly (usually the EEE department and undergraduate admissions)

Provide transcripts, a personal statement explaining your reason for transfer, and sometimes references

Show your first-year modules match theirs, they’ll want you to have covered equivalent content

But I must emphasise,
You’re not “stuck” at QMUL, from the sounds of it, you have a great learning environment and group of friends, there's no guarantee you will find that elsewhere. Don’t underestimate the value of making the most of where you are, strong grades + good experience + networking can take you far, even from QMUL.
Hope this helps,
ULaw Ambassador,
Alfred.
