Question About University Social & Night Life

I recently spoke to some friends who are attending universities and they told me that going to a university with a good social and night life should be a priority as they regret not taking that into account. From this, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for universities and cities with a good social and night life for things like clubbing, going out, etc.

Hi @ruebs

I hope you are well! Although uni is not all about going out drinking and clubbing every weekend, it can add to the experience if you are into all of that stuff. It allows you to bond with flatmates during freshers week and meet lots of new people when out and about!

Liverpool has one of the best student nightlifes in the country! There are endless amounts of pubs, clubs and bars and there is a specific student night at different clubs, every night of the week! The prices are not too bad either and everything is located in the same area!

You should make sure though that you are not just picking the uni because of its nightlife. You want to be sure that you like the location and the course that the uni offers, the good nightlife is just a bonus on top! There is no point getting into lots of debt if you are just going for the party. LJMU however is an excellent uni, offering so many courses and to top it off, the nightlife is amazing!

Let me know if you have any questions about uni life in Liverpool or just uni life in general, I am more than happy to help!

Thanks, Matt 🙂

Hi there,

This is something that really differs for every person and everyone has different priorities when they are looking at universities.

I think that it depends on what is important to you so have a think about which things you want to prioritise when looking at universities and then you can look at the specific universities which offer these things. So, if nightlife is important to you, have a look which universities have a good nightlife. If sports are important to you, have a look at a uni which has a great sports presence. I would then make a table based on these of the places you like the sound of and then you know which places you want to visit and potentially apply to.

There are lots of things that could be a priority to you when looking at universities - nightlife, league tables, sports, societies, teaching style, assessment style and many more! There is no right or wrong answer on what is important to you and every university offers something slightly different so look into what you like the sound of.

This is a great platform to find out student's opinions, or you can look on What Uni and also Student Crowd Reviews these are great places to find student's opinions. There is also a great platform called The Ambassador Platform where you can chat to some current students which is very helpful!

I hope some of this helps,

Hey,

That’s a really valid question, and it's understandable why your friends are emphasising nightlife. For many, clubbing and going out become a huge part of the fun, but to be honest, it’s only one part of uni life.
There are actually many different ways to have a great social life! You can find fantastic connections through things like:

Societies and Sports Teams: This is often the best way to make close friends who share a genuine hobby, whether it's baking, hiking, gaming, or a specific sport.

Course/Study Groups: Meeting up to work on a module can quickly turn into friends grabbing coffee or lunch.

Manchester's Social Scene
If you are looking for that buzz, Manchester is famous for its vibrant nightlife. It offers immense variety, from legendary music venues and underground clubs to affordable student bars and cultural spots in areas like the Northern Quarter.
Manchester has options for every kind of social life, so you'll definitely find your people and your way to unwind.

Hope this helps!😊

Hi @ruebs 👋

At Essex University, we have plenty of events and social opportunities to indulge in 🙂 we have a underground nightclub that run events every night which is a popular spot for students as well as the SU bar as well for a less hectic place to have fun! It is a factor to consider yes if you enjoy being social and want to include that as a priority in your University life 😊

Off the top of my head, London, Brighton, and Bristol are famous for its nightclubs. But every decent-sized town should have a club or something to do at night. The quality of offering will obviously vary, but every university town caters to some degree to the clubbing and going out wants of the students.
