im y11 currently and i feel so left behind bc the rest of my peers already know what colleges/sixth forms they want to go to and i dont have a clue.
i have a few in mind like laet and woodhouse but other than that im not sure.
im an average ability student but working hard to improve my grade. im a high 7 for chemistry, around the same for physics and an 8 in bio. i do sociology history and re and get 9s in those except for history(5 😞)
im working hard to do well and get into a good sixth form/college but have no idea where or the application process etc!! any help would be appreciatedd

hiya!
i was lowkey like you during the first half of year 11 and locked in by the second half, so its not late! and u're already doing well with ur grades, just keep revising by getting the content down and then attempting exam questions

basically you can choose to apply to as many sixthforms as you want for now, just look at their websites. decide on which subjects youre most likely to pick and see if the sixth form offers it or not. look at what exam boards they do and their results etc. this should be a good starting point, then you can factor in commute, any extra support they might give and other things!!

some schools may have tests like imperial or kings college maths school and harris westminster, so make sure you check the website for this. some others may have aptitude tests, essentially its those iq and pattern recognition tests. ik a few have had interviews too. most schools also ask for predicted grades, so make sure they correspond to the sixth form's requirements eg if u want to do bio, some schools may require you to have an 8 in bio and 7 in chem, physics and maths. some schools also dont give conditional offers, so they only consider your real gcse grades that you can send to them online/ give to them in person on results day.

i think i might be missing a few key details but thats all i can really think of. honestly just look at websites of different sixth forms like the ones i mentioned, or just search up high achieving sixth forms on google and lists will pop up.

i hope this was helpful, but do let me know if u have any other questions!!

this was supeeerr helpful thank you so much!! if any sixth forms do let you apply with conditional offers i give them my mock grades right? im also not completely sure what i want to do in the future so i cant base my alevels off that either :frown: its between crimonology, humanitarian law, neuroscience or an optometrist (very varied ik) hopefully ill have a more clear view soon. anything i could do to pique more interest in a specific course or subject?

please aim for the top in gcse!! i had offers to go to laet and woodhouse yet because of oversubscription i was rejected although i met the offer requirements so now im studying at quite a bad sixth form ☹️ i dont want this to happen to anyone else so aim for those 8s and 9s if you can!!

im so glad i could help!!

essentially, a conditional offer is when the sixth gives you a place, with the condition that you achieve your mock/ the required grades for the subjects you want to study in your actual gcses. so yes, when applying you'd be giving them your predicted grades which come from your mocks (usually 1-2 grades higher than what you actually got)

i was the same tbh, i wanted to do international law but i also really wanted to do stem based stuff. my sixth form makes you do 4 subjects so i ended up choosing bio chem maths and english !! id say for now really focus on your mocks so you get good predicteds and that will go hand in hand with helping you get good grades for gcses (honestly aim for those 9s and 8s!!) but if you want to you can read around those fields - doesnt have to be in great detail, it can be an article or even a short video or a ted talk etc. - and see what you find most interesting. look at what uni's you'd want to go to which have those degrees you mentioned/ have degrees that will lead you to the job you want and look at the alevel requirements. id recommend you to also look at the actual alevel stuff too just to see what sort of content you'd be dealing with for the next 2 years, this can be from different exam boards like aqa or edexcel but be aware that different sixth forms have different exam boards. you can also check out the jobs the degrees will lead to and their pay!

also a lot of sixth forms let you switch subjects if they have spaces like 2 weeks in, so if you end up REALLY not liking your choices you can always change i believe!!

i dont really structure my responses so sorry if it sounds a lot like ramble (because it lowk is 😭) but lmk if you have any other questions !! 😋
