Personal statement - talking about universities

Would it disadvantage me to mention another university in my personal statement? I’ve attended an economics seminar/talk at Uni of Sheffield, which I would love to mention as I found it really interesting ,however as I have 4 other choices as well, would this pose a disadvantage or should I mention the tall without saying the name of the University?

Hello!

I would say it depends on how you word it, If you say: Uni of Sheffield is my fist choice because I went to a seminar and it was really cool, id say dont put it

if you however, choose to phrase it as "I did a taster seminar with the university of Sheffield for economics and found it really insightful to the content of the course... this solidified my interest and choice.... etc I would say its more appropriate

Remember your word limit also you could spread the same message without name dropping the whole university- it would save some characters!

good luck with whatever you choose!
In the context of an outreach event, totally fine to mention.

The unis can't see which other unis you are applying to, so they won't know that you're applying to Sheffield, it may have been the university local to you that was putting this talk on.

As the post above highlights, if you explicitly write in your personal statement that you would favour one university over another this is where that's (a) a foolish move and (b) a complete waste of characters.
